I picked up a 2014 Charger pursuit model for my kids to use. Safe car, good suspension, AWD. Still has the floodlight and the picatinny rail instead of a console.
You’d think driving it would result in people getting out of your way, but more often than not they drop to 55mph and just sit there. Or you see them gaining on you quickly from behind and then suddenly cut the throttle and sit back there for miles. |
I bought a 78 Plymouth Fury B&W police car at an auction in 1981 for $1500. All lighting and equipment was removed. It was a basic car but fast as hell. It had cop shocks, cop tires etc. It was pretty reliable. I used it as a work vehicle.
You Tuber Cleetus Mc Farland has cornered the market on old Crown-Vics. He puts cages and nitrous. He then gets other You-Tubers and race drivers and holds events on his track in Florida. He bought the old De-Soto Speedway |

2 years ago before they became scarce, you could buy a CVPI for under $1500, lots went for $500. All had low mileage. They have heavy duty cooling and suspension, most had limited slip diffs. They are a great first car as mentioned above. My 10 year old drives my cop car all over the farm. The seat goes way ahead and the pedals come back... he loves it. I didn’t drive mine much, maybe put 2000 miles on it but it wasn’t terrible to drive (until the blendoor actuators got stuck so the heat is permanently cranked). If I was in a different financial position, I would be using a ex cop vehicle as my daily. In fact, I threatened to get my wife an RCMP explorer if the kids can’t keep her car clean. Let’s just say that the rear passenger compartment is designed to be hosed out in a cop car. |
They have a following, and it’s not just psychopaths...

I don't know what your obsession and problem is, but you need to get help before it gets you hurt. Back on topic, I thought about getting one of those Highway patrol SUVs, but doesn't have the tow capacity to drag my 24' enclosed trailer to the track. |

Hasn't it been many years since these were cop cars? Around here the cop cars are Chevy Malibus, Dodge Magnums or SUVs. Can't remember seeing a Crown Vic police car in last 10 years.
|
They quit making crown Vic’s in 2011. I think 2010 and 11 all production was CVPIs (crown Vic police interceptor s)

One other thing to watch for is engine hours. Some places will list them, some don't, but it's available somewhere in the screens of all current ex-cop cars. Sure, 100,000 miles isn't much today, but then when you see it has another 6,000 idle hours on the engine you might think twice. I took a look at wisconsinsurplus.com last night, looked up some closed auctions. Explorers seem to go for a lot more than $3500, and every one is listed as "fair" or "poor" condition, and they'll usually state what's wrong with them. Bad wheel bearings, transmission slips, rust, dents, lots of holes from removed gear, etc. |
I have a black crown vic (CVPI) that is a ex sheriff car. No tinted windows or push bar but it does still have the spot light. I bought it because it was cheap ($2000) and had new tires and had just been serviced. It still has the sheriff decal impression on the hood and if you look at it in the right light you can still see all of the stripes and star on the door where the paint faded around them. I bought it 4 years go and it is still my daily driver, I don't need anything special to drive to and fro just to get door dinged, scratched, etc in parking lots. It'll do everything a $30,000 car will do plus it keeps the fast lane open on the expressway! People will just about break their necks to move over when it rolls up on them at a "few" miles an hour above the speed limit. It's smooth, roomy, and drives good. My parents live in Florida and I'll say I've never made better time down there and back! I feel like Jake Blues.

Police generally know little about the law they enforce. Patience seems the exception rather than the rule these days, and it would appear as many police would stroke out from running ten feet as not, so the ninja thing is pretty laughable.
Would be nice if that described a cop. |
I would like to sell an L
