Help with finding old carb parts
I need help with the brain trust and finding a source for parts for an old edger.
I bought my edger on July 3rd, 1986. The piece of crap carburetor has only lasted 34 years and 10 months and it now leaks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621613714.jpg I suspect it is the needle valve # 09 on the list, part number 53-1200. I can find the parts list, and lost of dealers, but no one seems to have any of the parts I want. I figure if I am going to take it apart, I should get the gaskets, and do a full rebuild. I would settle for a needle valve that does not leak. So my question, is do any of you guys know of a source for old carb parts like this? I believe it is a carb used on other small engines. I have just over 1/4 mile of edging to do at my house. Lots of sidewalks, and the edger does great and makes it much easier. I just need a few parts to keep it running. I tried the local lawn mower shop, and he can't find a source as yet. |
Back in the day, Toro used Techumseh for their mower engines...maybe they supplied the edger power as well?
Anyway, you might try these folks: https://www.partswarehouse.com/Tecumseh-Engine-Parts-s/288117.htm?msclkid=ecefc860a909142d6ba8a8c749b6da1 5&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Yard %20-%20TECUMSEH&utm_term=tecumseh%20engine%20parts&utm _content=Tecumseh%20Exact%20Match%20Group |
Have you looked for a complete carb ? I recently bought a new carb for my 30+ year old generator for $21. Yes its a Chinese knockoff but it works perfectly.

There is a website Joe's Small Engines or something like that. I have bought from them.
And eBay. |
There's a guy up in Wisconsin that sells, or used to, on ebay. Several years ago I sold him a box of parts from Sunbelt rentals when I was helping them liquidate a warehouse. You might check ebay if you know the part number of the carb.

Here's your needle valve. Your answer to finding the parts is right there in the attached diagram
Needle: 53-1200 Here's one of the gaskets https://www.amazon.com/Toro-Gasket-Part-81-1010/dp/B00TD9GI96 Here's the float for the obsolete part number on the list (I'd check the float. They can crack and fill with fuel which will cause the bowl to overfill) https://www.ereplacementparts.com/float-p-723238.html |
eBay and then as Jack mentioned sometimes easier to buy a whole new carb. I've done that with my 2 cycle hand held equipment. Those are also found on eBay.

Not me... Google. Just put "Toro" ahead of the part number on the list and things start popping up. Only thing I haven't found yet is a complete replacement carb PN 53-1190.

I could have done the same thing (and have for other things I was looking for) but you deserve credit for tracking it down and posting it. |
That is the same carb on my dad's wood chipper.
How sad is it that I recognize the carb on my dad's woodchipper? |
I finally tracked down just the needle valve and the one gasket I am sure to need. $14.39 total with shipping and tax. At least I think it is right. As worst I wasted $14.39.
https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Carburetor-Repair-Kit/631021B/1606506 It does appear to be a Techumseh engine but there is no tag on the engine itself. I would like to find the entire carb if possible if it is a direct fit. I had seen the Ebay needle valve and was hesitating ordered from multiple sources just to no avoid three shipping charges. There is lawn mower repair place just three blocks from the very center of downtown Edmond. I was there 20 years ago and the old man running it was a long time mower repair guy. Likely he would have "gone to the back" and handed me a few parts that I needed for cheap. Now he is gone and I think it is his nephew runs the place. He is not the man his uncle was. He seems to hate little orders like mine. I am just stubborn enough to figure out a fix for my old edger and spend way more time and effort on keeping it running than just giving up and getting some new edger. |

Says now part of Northern Tool. IDK if that's a good thing or not. |

For my generator, I just searched 8 hp Briggs carb and found it. Part numbers seem to limit the number of finds.
