Indy 500 qualifying?

Unreal! Penske cars struggling to make the field? WTF??? Captain must not be pleased..

URY914 05-22-2021 02:25 PM

Crazy how that track can change from day to day.

Scott Douglas 05-22-2021 02:44 PM

Day to day, how about hour to hour?

Por_sha911 05-23-2021 01:15 PM

Some good story lines in the final lineup today.
Best news is to OLD MEN Kanaan and Castroneves are in the top 9.
I would pay to see Spiderman climb the fence for #4 and who doesn't love T.K.?

rfuerst911sc 05-23-2021 02:55 PM

Congrats to Dixon he put down four smokin laps ! Would love to see TK pull off a win .

I have to see this race live one day, love everything about it, must be an amazing experience to watch it from the stands

pwd72s 05-23-2021 03:15 PM

Jimmy Johnson's words at the closing..warning us to not count the Penske cars out. Good advice...qualifying is one thing...the race is another.

Sooner or later 05-23-2021 03:27 PM

Look out! Woman majority owner and driver made the field.

yellowperil 05-23-2021 03:28 PM

Good to see Simona de Silvestro make the field also. She can drive, and I hope she does well.

URY914 05-23-2021 03:53 PM

The most complicated qualifying in of racing.

smadsen 05-23-2021 09:47 PM

Remember about 30 years ago the Penske cars were slow and couldn't make the show. They packed and went home early.

Ironically it was the year immediately after they stomped the competition with the sneaky short pushrod Ilmor Mercedes motor.

It is. I went 3 years ago when Will Power won.

The speed is unreal, the sound is mesmerizing, and the cars look sublime in the speedway configuration.

My info is dated, from 1994, but I bet not much has changed

In the grandstands it beautiful. Balloons rising, the singing of Back Home in Indiana, the cars, the excitement.

But, again this was in 1994, outside the speedway, a big party. Think Madi Gras without the costumes but all the alcohol. A lot of fun, but not what the network TV, or the chamber or commerce wants to shown.

And the track is really really big.

I was about 1/2 way up the grandstands at the apex of turn 4.
From my seat I could see the cars exit turn 3 and they would disappear again about 2/3 the way down the front straight.

I lived in Speedway, IN for a few years when I was a kid. About 1973 thru 1977. Whole different world back then. The drivers would stay at local people's houses or apartments. Gordon Johncock stayed in our apartment complex one May (in the building next to ours). Me and my Dad went out and talked to him in the parking lot. :)

We could hear the cars from my house and see the balloons. As a young kid I was mesmerized.

As an adult, I am still mesmerized. I have also had the awesome experience of racing at Indy, albeit on the road course. Screaming down the front straight and feeling that little "bump-bump" as you cross the yard of bricks at speed is so cool... SmileWavy

Congratulations to the now four time winner of the Indy 500 .

yellowperil 05-30-2021 12:32 PM

What a great race, won by the master himself. He had them covered and maybe a bit lucky with the last tangle of traffic at the very end.

greglepore 05-30-2021 12:47 PM

I wasn't a fan all of those years with the Penske dynamo, but that win was beautiful to watch on so many levels. Great year for a master...Rolex and Indy. He's up there with Mario and AJ now in my estimation.

Scott Douglas 05-30-2021 01:00 PM

That was a fun race to watch. Great to see Helio do it, again.

Go Honda!
