Batteries either take a charge and pass a simple test or they do not. There is no in-between.

I’ve had batteries test good but on the marginal side and still cause weird issues. These cars are very sensitive to battery voltage apparently. If it’s old I would replace it, but that’s just me.

Matt, we're not really in disagreement here. If the battery tests, "marginal," I'd say replace it. But if it tests good leaning on it w the load tester, then good=good. :)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is rust. It may be no problem on this car but mine came from the midwest and I should have paid more attention to that. I have a 2004 C4S and just did the exhaust/plugs/coil packs. Holy crap the hardware was a mess. I broke 2 bolts off in the case and was being extra careful. I had to source used mufflers and supports, all new hardware. Exposure to mid west winters caused a bunch of issues that I think are mostly solved at this point but just made for a lot of unnecessary work.

No argument on the fear mongering.
