Gonna need a bigger boat

Not really, but my son caught this shark yesterday when we were out in the gulf fishing.

We had a whole sand perch on the line for a big grouper. But got this instead.

We also caught quite a few grouper, snapper, and various other.

We are having shark for lunch today.

Sharks musta been on the move yesterday. Buddy and I hit Shell Mound (just near Cedar Key) and while we just caught catfish (big ones for a change, at least we got to fight...) one guy pulled up w/ his girlfriend, tossed out a line and was heard to say "I'm after anything but a shark... don't wanna catch a shark". He then proceeded to pull in 3 sharks in a 30 minute period. After he left another guy pulled in two more. All small - 20-25 inches per the measuring board but kinda silly... Naturally the rest of us immediately started saying we didn't want to catch a redfish or a drum or a big trout....

This really cool, DM.

One of my friends from SC became a shrimp boat Captain. He would bring shark steaks to Aiken all the time. Actually, prepared right, delicious.

My daughters BF is a Marine Biologist and they fish off of Charleston all the time.

Shark is good, firm texture like Swordfish. I've heard you need to clean them quick otherwise they release urea which can give the meat an ammonia taste and smell.

We cleaned it when we got back, a couple of hours after the catch. The wife read that you need to soak in milk for 20 minutes before cooking. Other than that she breaded and deep fried. We cut it into smaller pieces.

Firm white fish.

Early 90's when I was living in Ft. Myers area - this off Sanibel Island. Lemon Shark. And yes - it was delicious! :)

Looks like a lemon shark. Sharks do not all taste the same (some are delicious, some are inedible), so if you want to make a habit of it read up on which species are good to eat. In my corner of the world (Puget Sound) we eat dogfish sometimes, but it is essential to kill, gut and skin them ASAP or you are going to have some ammonia/urea tasting flesh. Done right they are delicious though!
