Item ordered from HD shows as shipped by UPS, but won't search on UPS site

Very interesting. I ordered an item (pesticide/herbicide sprayer) from HD. THe link that they sent stating that it had shipped includes a UPS tracking number (1Z.....). If I click the link in the email, it has full tracking info, via a HD branded page. It shows as "out for delivery." If I take the tracking number on the page and put it into a UPS package tracking page, they don't find the tracking number.

Part of the link

https :// www. narvar. com/tracking/homedepot/ups?tracking_numbers=1Z126....

The page even includes a link to a UPS page with the tracking # as part of the URL, but if you click the link, it fails and says "Unable to complete your tracking request at this time. Please, try again later."

I'm not complaining and I don't need anything to be fixed. I suspect the delivery will occur some time in the next 2-3 hours. I just find it odd.

"Out for delivery" can mean you placed an order and the order is in the very first part of the process.
If you just placed it recently, chances are, UPS doesn't even know about it yet.

Then in a day or two the order status might change saying that the shipping label has been created or such, paperwork.
That just means that UPS is now aware of the order and that it will soon be ready for them to pick up.
Eventually UPS will show they actually picked up the package.

When it shows the package location has moved from their central location to a location closer to you, that's when you know it's really out for delivery.
Typically they only have it for two days before it's on your door step.
But they play these silly games to make the buyer feel better.

Masraum, from your post you say it was shipped UPS, but you searched USPS. UPS = United Postal Service, USPS = United States Postal Service. UPS is the brown truck, not government entity.

This order is approaching a week old. It looks like this is a real "out for delivery"

Shipper created a label, UPS has not received the package yet.

Yep, definitely using the UPS website, not USPS. Definitely looking at the brown website.

Ok

BTW I ordered something from amazon a couple months ago.
The next day the seller cancelled the order, it seems whoever drop-ships the item for them was out of stock so they sold something they didn't have.
Sleazy, but oh well.

I ordered the item from somewhere else and received it, but the order status on amazon for the original order (that was cancelled) is still listed as "out for delivery".

I've run into similar stuff. I've received items after some sort of delay and then had them show as out for delivery for weeks.

I UPSd a book to a friend in Arkansas months ago, it still isn't there.

It may be a “last mile” type delivery. It originates with UPS but is handed off to USPS for the delivery.

I have had a few things come this way. Tracking is ok until the hand off... have seen items “out for delivery” 2-3 days... then USPS delivers it.

No way! That's SERIOUSLY shocking. You expect customer service from Home Depot !??

masraum 06-02-2021 07:43 PM

I got the sprayer this evening.

Weird that the HD UPS tracking number didn't show up on the UPS website.
