I like the 1/4 sheet ones. More versitile than the random orbit. Youve got 4 corners to wear down and gets into tighter spaces without bouncing all over. Corner cat im sure could do bigger jobs but really more suited to finish work and tight spots. The ones iv used dont have as much wobble as the others so less sanding power. And need special paper. Belt sander is my favorite they just dont mess around but really not for light work.

Quarter sheet

I totally agree. Next is an RO with a rotary lock up. Currently only Festool makes that and it's over 600 bucks. Worth every penny.

Amazing that you can get an RO sander for $40 or $630.

Festool is VERY proud of their products.

I've always been partial to the Makita 1/4 sheet sander...

I've always liked Makita, but not had much because it was pricey and back when I was buying my old tools, cost was more of a consideration. I just checked Amazon who's got the Makita, and there are a bunch of reviews talking about them breaking and falling apart. Seems weird, may be total BS, since we know that many reviews are.

RO sander. The corners you can do by hand.

And justifiably so

If you had to get one of the 3 sanders at the top of this image, which would you prefer and why?

Interesting, 10k orbits per minute, 11k orbits per minute and 12k rpm according to the web.

They are $45, $40 and $45.

P411. Hands down.

I have every one of those types of sanders. ( and then some...) I probably use my random orbit the most out of all of them.

But if I was to only be able to have one, it would be a 1/4 sheet.

This is where I voted. You can put any paper you can dream of in it and get four pieces and not have to rely on some proprietary attachment system of velcro or something. No contact cement either. Eff' that.

I've got all these sanders btw, and this type is the one I have used the most, and that's by a longshot.
Also, it lets you put weight right over the sander, Some of the triangular ones are offset, and you cant do that. Make sure you can put some "umphh" right over the subject with a palm grip, whatever you do.

All of this everyday, and twice on Sunday.
You will destroy the foam pad that the paper mounts on, but you can get a BAG of replacements on Amazon for like $10. Change the pads the moment they get chewed up, and the sandpaper will last longer. I only wasted paper when I either had a screwed up pad, or tried to push the sander past it's limits.
