Why is a green screen green?

I have always wondered why is a green screen green? Is there a specific reason why the screen is green and not blue or white or yellow or some other color?

because it is easy to eliminate since it is so different from skin tone. IDK if people in front of it must avoid green in their clothing.

Yes, if you are wearing that color, it creates issues.

They can and do use blue as well. Green is easier since fewer clothes are green.

So if some chick is wearing a green bikini top it makes it disappear?

I've also seen a blue screen used.

But anyways they're now using high definition screens for set back grounds.
- We first saw this used on The Mandalorian.

Being the old tech guy, I thought you were talking about early computer monitors...
