Chromebook auto update expiration

Hey guys a few months ago I posted about my old laptop computer . Some of you suggested a Chromebook as an alternative . I have been looking online there is a lot to choose from . But I also noticed that the auto update expiration date varies between brands and models .

As an example an Asus CX1500 has an AUE date of June 2024 . There are other models that the AUE date is 2029 . Silly question ........ why would you buy a unit that the support ends in 3 years ??? Doesn't make sense to me am I missing something ? Or are the updates less important than I think they are ?

I've had a chromebook for at least six years now.
Maybe once a year, I'll get a notice that it needs updating. Just ok it and restart....done.

The only issue that I've had with Chromebook has been the printing.
My wireless printer worked perfectly until a month ago. I started getting messages that Chromebook was no longer going to be supported by cloud printing.
Then, a couple weeks later, it stopped printing.

^^^ Curious what brand and model Chromebook do you have ?

^^^
I have two Samsung Chromebooks that are still working perfectly.
The oldest is model xe550c22 and it's build date is 01/2012 (I didn't realize it was that old!)
The other one is xe501c13 (can't see the date, but I estimate 4 years old)
Both are 13 inch and neither one has a cd/dvd drive. (never need one anymore)

You want to buy a Chromebook that has the longest timeframe for Auto Updates. The main reason for this is that, along with phones, you want to make sure that the device has the latest security updates. The bad guys are always finding new exploits.

Google's Auto Update policy is that they will provide updates for 6.5 years from the manufacturer's original release date for that device.
