Barbour Bedale + Beaufort waxed jackets
I have one of each in Olive both new with tags and complete with the Barbour 125 years lapel badge.
I scored them both at a deal considering these are $400 + a piece jackets.. Anyhow they have been collecting dust and I happened upon them when going through my many gentlemen jackets.. I understand these are supposed to last for 30, 40 plus years and are often rebuilt several times by the factory.. I have also seen these on ebay in truly horrible ripped up tatty condition and the seller is asking $200 even in these conditions.. So anyone here have any experience with these two jackets? Part of the reason I never wore them is I feel I need some very fine english hiking boots or a harris tweed jacket before I can actually wear them.. Here’s a link for anyone who has never heard of Barbour jackets.. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BfjoD4qOBTk

I'm wearing one right now.
Also have a Filson. I've re-waxed both of them, I have worn them pretty hard, and both are beginning to wear out. I would say, wear it, enjoy it, but don't work on cars with them. In the end, they are waxed cotton, and the jacket is COTTON. It feels bulletproof because the wax makes it feel heavier, but it will wear out and tear. If you are working near a car, watch out for it catching on a bolt or something, b/c it will tear. I wish it was a sturdier leather, but it's not. Oh well, still a pretty good jacket. |

Barbour Bedale + Beaufort waxed jackets

Yeah thought so.. They make good hunting jackets.. However I don’t hunt. These are the coats of the Royal family and I have seen serval pictures of Prince Charles, Phillip, Harry and even the Queen herself wearing the Barbour Beaufort. I have a few RL hunting jackets and some other waxed coats. I have a RL waxed coat that weighs 5+ pounds.. That thing could go through a blizzard. A matter of fact. These I feel are for early to late fall and early spring.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

They are supposed to be short apparently so they don’t interfere with riffle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

My wife wears my Mom's Barbour...my Mom died in 1990 so you folks can do the math. It was well worn when she passed.
She keeps it repaired, waxed...her connection to Arden. I have a Filson...not for everyone.

Bought mine in London in 1985 a Gamefair, still wear it, replaced the sleeves and had it cleaned 2 years ago, patched a couple of holes. Good for another 40 years.

i have one of each. beaufort (green) and bedale (blue). got both of them in 1994. i have always waxed them myself. when the edges fray or a pocket starts to tear etc, i send them to the USA service center. the beaufort has been for service 3 times. the bedale once. it ain’t cheap (quite the opposite) and the lack of communication during the process is maddening....especially as these things develop sentimental value like an old pocket knife.
both my jackets still look new but i don’t abuse them. i also don’t wear them as much as i used to. when i lived in NYC, the beaufort was just great. big pockets. wind proof. rain proof. i have the removable liner for it. highly recommended. my closet would never be without at least one of them if you don’t wax them, they will fall apart quite quickly

I've had a Beaufort since, I think, about 1995, when my parents gave me one. Mine looks sort of like Prince Charles' does in the photo of him stepping over the stone wall. I love it and have always found it a great jacket for spring and fall and wet, and can use it in winter with the lining snapped in. Unfortunately it's at least two sizes too big. I used to wear everything too big (certainly when I was 21, when I got the jacket) but don't any more. I seldom wear it because I sort of swim in it. But I like it enough that I want to see if a good tailor can size it down for me. I also have my (late) father's Barbour, in one size bigger yet. I keep it for sentimental reasons but it would also be useful as the jacket to try to alter. I like them because I like the aesthetic (I like techy, but I also like the opposite of techy), I like the materials, and I like the pockets.

^^ i was 24 when i got my beaufort and it’s a little big on me too...but perfect when the liner is snapped in. my bedale was bought a little small because it was on sale and my mom saw it and bought it for me hoping it would fit. it does but the shoulders are tad bit tight
i’ll say the only thing that keeps me from wearing these things more is sitting in my nice leather heated seats in the car is not a great idea.

When I had my boys line Traveler Kids, I used a coated twill our Indian manufacturing found. There were lined with fleece so it was like wearing a stuffed teddy bear. One of my few regrets was not having a jacket made for me.
Fall 2014 buyer's show. Used the same material for a cafe racer motorcycle jacket (blue). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have a Filson Upland coat with hood. It's nice, heavy and has kept me warm and dry many a time....
![]() I also have an old Filson wool cruiser jacket from the 1930's-40's that I picked up for $10 at an estate sale. The tag inside says "Fil-Clothes - For The Man Who Knows".

Seems like a nostalgia play? Certainly better materials out there than waxed cotton?

Barbour Bedale + Beaufort waxed jackets
Picked up another one of these (Border model) for a very reasonable price considering they are $300 on the second hand market for a nice one $500 for a new one and crazy prices like $600+ for a vintage one.
This one is circa 2000 Border model before they started branding these on the outer pocket as Barbour. These Border models seem to not commonly be sold in the US or so it seems. Simply a tool coat. Wow I’m 5.10 5.11 and this thing is long… Anyhow detachable game pockets, drains in the bottom of the jacket and pockets everywhere. It is basically a hunters raincoat. This is a C40 chest that came from a estate auction. It seems to have never been worn. Or Zero outward signs. This was a true score!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
