Mobile Device Manager

So, we currently use Airwatch - now Workspace 1 - from VMWare. It is a time consuming mess to get iPads enrolled and well, I wont give my real feelings here, but there is usually an error during the enrollment with the AC2. Multiple times in most cases.

What does everyone else use? I hear good things about Meraki and Maas360 but have experience with neither.

All I want is a quick way to enroll an iOS device to be able to find it, lock it down, wipe it and push apps to it, all remotely.

We have roughly 40 devices.

Actually, I wish we didn't have iOS so I didn't have to enroll via ABM and then MDM, but that is a story for another day.

At my previous job we used MobileIron. At my current job we're rolling out Intune. Both with a population of 12-13,000 users. All seem like overkill for 40 devices.

Used them all, I like MobileIron (we sell it) but they are all good. Meraki for small deployments is OK, no where near the bells and whistles of the bigger systems. You can use Apple’s DEP too so they come ready to be deployed, just power them on for the first time and they auto enroll.

If you have windows devices and InTune you can use it too.

Let me know if you have more questions

Hah, we just hired a tech to manage our i-things (mostly iMacs but plenty of laptops and iPads as well).

She says we use jamf and that it works well enough. https://docs.jamf.com/10.28.0/jamf-pro/administrator-guide/Remote_Commands_for_Mobile_Devices.html

Sorry guys, I forgot I took Friday off.

The current way we have to enroll the device is to go to AC2, enroll the device with ABM and then tell ABM to enroll into Workspace 1. Then go to the device and enroll from there. If you get anything out of sync, you start over. This is what I would like to get away from. I want an easy way to enroll in the MDM. We don't have many requirements, just what is listed above.

There are two IT people for a 24/7 facility with 400 employees so quick and easy is a winner for us.

So, different job now but this one they are looking for a MDM to deploy custom apps developed in house that are not in the Play Store. Can Mobile Iron do that? I really pushed for that in my previous position, but they stuck with the non-working product and were mad at me for not training our tech on how to use it. Go figure.

You gonna root all the phones/tablets?

I can't speak to Google apps. but most MDM's allow you to install in-house developed apps. A lot has changed since the original post so re-look at them all.

Airwatch is now VMWare Workspace One
MobileIron is now Ivanti

I would recommend looking to Gartner or another body to see who is the best fit for you now.

We used airwatch (workspace 1) for mdm. Had about 5k mobile devices out of about 50k total endpoints when I retired. We were just starting to evaluate other tools due to the cost of airwatch. Intune functionality wasn’t there yet but jamf was promising. I would check out jamf.

If cost is the biggest factor over features, Meraki System Manager and MaaS360 are other good products with reasonable features.

I had WS1 at the previous place. We use a different one here, but a rollback to a previous version is basically not available. You have to re-release a package and deploy it as a new version for it to work properly. I think WS1 may have been a good fit where I was if they didn't have all iOS devices.

I have looked at a lot of these several times and they all say they can do this or that. Having fought with WS1 and paying $19k to their partner to get it working and still didn't work after a year, I am skeptical of what works for our needs.
