Period correct wheels, nationality and car color

I've been playing with 14" wheels and color for a 1980 Scirocco. Along the way I think I've realized that not only does period correctness make a difference, so does the nationality design aesthetic of the car and the wheels and the color of the car itself. I want to paint it Delphi Green Metallic but that will only work with the Audi wheels and maybe the Kleeblatts. Alaska Blue Metallic would work best for the BiTurbo wheels. Aquamarine Metallic Blue is also a contender.

Very quick photoshoping on the wheels. Most pics are flat vs. the slight fisheye of them mounted on a car.

What do you think?

These are the original 13s on the car now which is why they look the best.

14" Ronal Kleeblatts

14" Maserati BiTurbo

1980 Audi 4000, 14"

13" Fondmetal mesh found on UK eBay... just liked them but tire size is scooting around town ONLY

My vote is a darker green with the wheels in the first photo.

My vote is that Gold Green metallic that was a factory Scirocco color (a lot like the green 914 shown, but I recall it being more green) with the factory wheels shown in the first photo.

In high school someone had a MK1 Scirocco that was a dark maroon with these wheels in gold. I thought it looked great.

Different wheels I have had on my VWs.

These are still my favorite aftermarket wheel for vws
And I had these MOMOS on one of the cabs.
As for stock VW wheel you can't go wrong with these.

As do D90s, Club Sports and even sewer lids.

Had no idea so many 4 bolt patterns for VW were available. Curious...any minilites made in the size you want? A wheel I always thought could look good on pretty much anything.

Panasport made wheels that look very much like Minilites. I had a set in 13x6 on my black Scirocco.
Lots of cars are 4x100, you just have to watch the hub diameter. You could put VW wheels on a Honda, but not Honda wheels on a VW. My favorite wheel was a set of Momo Gemini wheels that I bought from a Renault Alliance Cup racer. They were super light and rang like a bell.
14" wheels I liked were the BBS RA, the Audi 4000 16 spoke wheel, the VW snowflake found on the GTI, and the VW Silverstone (teardrop) shown above.

Not a fan of wheels that look like they belong on another car, but from another period VW seems good. Panasports or Snowflakes sound promising- like to see a photoshop of that. Here's a green Mk I that might help give you a preview. I found a blue Mk I with 16V wheels, which to me seem like they're from the wrong car.

Best? Shaun, the car is a Scirocco. It's lucky to not have been melted down and make into coca cola cans.

Those are really cool but only 13" inch. That said, I could put a 205/60/13 on which equals stock 175/70/13 but still think a 14" wheel is best for the car. Gives it a little more aggressive look and stance.

Only 5 left of these

It's lucky to have more steel than rust, this car has surprisingly little rust.

I have a set of snowflakes but are in horrible condition. At a minimum I'll have to have the outer bead shaved down on a wheel lathe. But I know then I'll have to media blast, Cerakote graphite black the centers and sides of spokes and sand the top surfaces. Otherwise they're just going to look like hell.

Agreed, the 16V wheels just don't look right at all.
