Anybody hear of USPS faking delivery times?
I'm not talking about tracking saying something is delivered a couple of hours before it actually is. What I'm talking about is them posting an item's status as delivered DAYS before it actually arrives (still hasn't in this case).
When I check the tracking history associated with the number, there is a pretty impressive electronic paper trail showing it's path through the system, etc. I figured it was delivered to the wrong address but checked with the intended recipient, my brother-in-law, and he said no, it happens all the time down here and all the locals complain to the post office about it but nothing happens. He lives in Durham, NC, in the research triangle area and the package was one of those regional B boxes, i.e. "if it fits, it ships." Anybody experience anything like this? To willfully program a computer to generate fake times. dates & locations seems absurd and I have a hard time believing my B-I-L, but he is a smart guy, not prone to exaggeration. His condo complex has a facebook page and this USPS chicanery seems to be a popular topic. He did add that the problem is limited to USPS...UPS, FedEx, etc. don't engage in the same behavior. |

Nope, never heard of it.
I use USPS a lot for personal and business items and have never had anything but stellar service. In fact, my last 2 deliveries arrived ahead of time. I wonder if it is limited to one bad manager, if it is occurring. I had an unreasonably demanding boss who insisted project deadlines be met or exceeded no matter what. This resulted in a specific piece of medical equipment being released to market that was plagued by recalls. |

Nope. I have seen them recycle tracking numbers though. Until it starts getting scanned in it’s new use, it will show as being delivered days before. It’s wild.

Regarding tracking....I'm expecting a package from UPS today. Getting late...so I clicked on the tracking and up pops a map showing where the truck is right now. It also says it has 9 stops before me. Awesome!

All the time. USPS (noticeable on Amazon Deliveries) will say delivered, but the package turns up 1-2 days later.

I think USPS just doesn't have the tech as the others do.
They handle too many plain envelopes to make it feasible.

I have had it happen numerous times in the Charlotte NC area and know it has happened to friends... in one case about 3 weeks later the package was actually delivered. She had already requested a refund and received it from the shipper when it finally arrived

I appreciate the feedback. Looks like both extremes for others as well. I've always had great service too, but this is just weird. Package still isn't there but there is the chance it was stolen, which would explain everything. I'll let you guys know but I provide Exhibit A: a screen shot of the tracking history and no, the number wasn't recycled...the data is pertinent/unique to me. Think about what you are looking at, if, what I say turns out to be true. All this info is manipulated/altered to support that fake delivery time. That's insane.

I mailed an 8.5 x 11 envelope certified, return receipt requested. Tracking said it was out for delivery and after that, nothing. No more info, envelope never showed up. I asked for an investigation and all I got was "huh, I guess we lost it, here is what you paid for the postage".

Definitely happens. And other times it's just delivered to the wrong address, because verifying addresses is hard...

especially for the USPS. If only there were some group within the gov't that you'd expect to REALLY know all about the addresses in the US.

Two weeks ago my package tracked as delivered. And it was but to my neighbors house. Simple mistake by the mail lady. It could happen to you.
