Maybe the crossover electronics have some bad capacitors or something similar that’s easily fixed.

You're guessing. Capacitors hum. ;):D

Not guessing. It’s a pretty common problem in the older audio gear.

I also have some experience with home theater speakers from Klipsch. In my last house, I built a home theater using some of the first speakers they designed for home use. A friend of mine who was in the theater business, did a lot of business with them and had some input into their initial foray into the home theater market. When they started producing them, he snagged one of the first sets for me.

If you’re trying to end up with stereo sound, just sell the thing and use the money to buy a pair of used stereo bookshelf speakers.

In an amp, they would hum, as they stop filtering the 60 cycle AC power.

In this case, crossover is a passive circuit.

You could open it up, connect 1 speaker to L, the other to R, ditch the crossover & tweeter, and see how bad it sounds. Or find a mono source, like a cheap bluetooth amp.

Fixin' a center speaker is like cleaning a Rap album....

Why bother :D?

If I had a Klipsch speaker, and exhausted all avenues, I'd put it in the alley.:D

Exactly where it's going. if I sell, it might come back to me. More trouble than the $25 I'd get for it.

Lesson learned. Interesting how well made it tis though.

Its a very sought after reference center and if listed for $40 on Craigs, you'll probably get it easy.

If it was an older Academy center, I'd be after you to buy it because those mate very well with my '77 Cornwalls and '81 Heresys.

I did read the Ohms and they are a tad over 8, static. I know the Olm rating ranges during operation. What you ae suggesting has already been done with poor results. For those that suggested why they were in the alley to begin with, know how things work.

They don't.

When it has 6 matched friends, sufficient amplification and a monster subwoofer making things vibrate off the walls it makes movies a whole different ball game.

If you aren’t into home theater then it’s no use at all, but if you are...

KFC911 07-15-2021 07:44 PM

^^^^ I did all of that once years ago (recabled & reconfigured) and added a subwoofer & center ... I think I watched one movie .... it was cool .... about 5K watts total ... some submarine movie with explosions, etc.

It was a novelty experiment for me though .... back to the music stuff .... hated music DVDs in a 5.1 format.... so back to 2-ch (x3) I went and the sub was never used again. My huge vintage Polk SDAs covered the 20-20Khz range by themselves and with 4 amps at 1K each driving them, .... I had a system that freakin' rocked ....with another amp driving two more Polks in the master bedroom... all playing at the same time.

House of Sound :)

The soundstage was amazing too... if you are familiar with SDA tech.

It was overkill ... but I could... so I did :D

No mas....
