52mm VDO Outside Mechanical Temperature Gauge
A couple of years ago I put a 52mm VDO mechanical outside temperature gauge in my 911.
Black face, black bezel, red needle. I bought it directly off the VDO website, at the time they had several different configurations of 52mm outside temperature gauges. Now I want to buy a 52mm chrome bezel, black face, orange needle but I can’t find it. In fact the VDO website has no outside thermometers at all. Does anyone know where to source one of these? I checked Amazon, eBay and the web- nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
Here is a photo of my Outside Temp gauge on the right of the voltmeter.

Search "52mm gauge bezel trim chrome" (?)
|
I’m getting water temperature, oil temperature, transmission temperature but not outside temperature
|
Ah. I thought you were looking for bezels to trim your current gauges.
Maybe check the marine world of gauges. |
Well it looks like VDO discontinued their entire line of outside temperature gauges. I can’t even find any new old stock anywhere, except for the $250 eBay units.
There even aren’t any cheap Chinese knockoffs. The search continues. . . |
Get a chrome pinky ring and stick your hand out the window. Works every time.
Or call Hollywood Speedo. |
you already have one digital LCD in the pic, so just add another one for outside temps.
|
My Honda doesn't have one...so I bought a $11 digital inside/outside temp gauge from Advanced Auto.
It's a stand-alone instead of a dash mounted....but it works great! |

In addition, the gauge I’m trying to source is for a different vehicle. |
ah, ok
I dunno re black faced ones - they are "too modern" for me can you locate the importer for VDO? or... you can send a green faced one to Hollywood Speedo and a stack of Benjamins... |

Just curious- did you want Fahrenheit? I see a part number for Celsius of 397035001GCH. Could you buy a chrome bezel from VDO, assuming you could even find the gauge?

That’s the gauge in Celsius, I’m looking for the one in Fahrenheit. I bought one in 2015 for $105 delivered.
Now that they are discontinued they are going for $250. Vintage ones for 356s as much as $5,000. |
