Ever have a credit car rejected?
It happened to me tonight..for the first time in my life. I hit the roof!
Chevron gas card...got so pissed, paid cash while having the cashier cut up the card. me ranting that Chevron just lost a customer. Whoops..once home we figured out that we have two Chevron cards. One with Cindy's name, the other mine...each a separate number. When they came, she called & activated HER card..handed me mine, told me it was activated. Grrrr. This makes me wonder if I'd have run into the same problem with the Shell card as well. Tomorrow, Cindy gets on the phone... Lucky for me that I always carry a few hundred in cash... As they say in Texas...She-YET!

Had one rejected years ago in a restaurant after eating a sandwich and drinking half a yard of beer. Used an alternate card, & the rejected card worked fine the next time I tried it.

Well, fortunately you didn't overreact.

I occasionally do a good deed. Last week the lady in front of me, with a little boy in the supermarket trolley, had her card rejected while trying to make a $315 weekly shopping purchase. I said I'd pay and she could pay me back some other time. She looked a bit surprised and I joked that she had enough on her plate with the little boy. I gave her my account number on a bit of paper and said anytime that suits you to credit my account. A couple of hours later the $315 was in my acc with an extra $10 and the three reference fields were filled in with Thank you Thank you and Thank you - very sweet of her.
But imagine it. Hard enough to mange supermarket shopping with a little guy acting up THEN finding the card is declined ![]() |

I somehow spent $266 on fuel in Odessa Texas a few months back. I wish they had shut my card down then, instead I had to file a fraud claim after I reviewed the statement.

I carry a MasterCard with $15k credit limit and a VISA with $25k credit limit.
That is all, no other credit cards, no fear of rejection. It is like walking around with a 9mm glock and a 357 magnum ![]()

Andy only lets me carry one bullet, hafta keep it in my pocket tho'.... .22lr
![]() Do you really need those limits on a CC .... or do ya need the credit? I only have one VISA debit now, don't know who the "service provider" is for my itty-bitty CU, but the fraud detection & prevention is awesome .... anything that isn't "normal for me" just won't go through. BTW .... once upon a time, I had a nearly 100K LOC linked to my card. I never tried to buy that much gas tho' .... I don't live in CA ![]() |

I refinanced it right away with my credit union. Besides that, no I don't really need those limits, just like one does not need to walk around with a 357 magnum ![]()

I will not feed the 'CC monster" and the overhead that's built in.... banks make a fortune on CCs, pennies on a debit fwiw.
If you bought a $50K SUV on a CC... "someone" paid "the CC monster" around $2K for that added convenience. They would have paid less than $1 via a debit. Both are secure these days imo.... wasn't always the case when debits first appeared. I simply refuse to play "their game". WF owes me a pension fwiw ... I also moved $$$ around for another mega-bank .... But I am NOT a banker ![]() |

Yes, most couples cards these days have different numbers. WHen new cards come, both cards need to be activated separately.

I applaud your willingness to help her out. Good man, but - you gave a complete stranger your credit card number?

No kidding.
I had one rejected last week. New credit card and something didn't make it through the system...I was honestly making sure it worked before I left on a business trip. Not the counter person's fault. Fixed it when I got home. Tried it again the next day and all was well. BTW I only use the card for travel purposes, otherwise it is back-up only. I have a gas card, a debit card and a few hundred in cash I keep in the car. I am a bit surprised, Paul.

The wife had her Capital One card declined last weekend in a Menards about 3 1/2 hours from home. I just put the purchase on my card. When she got back to the truck, she noticed a text from the Cap One robot "Did you just try to make a purchase in xxx?" She replied "yes", and the robot replied back "OK, try it again", but we were already out of the store. I guess they care more about preventing fraud than holding up a checkout line.
