big motha

I found this on the north outside wall of my garage. It stayed in the same spot for two full days. Now, it's dropped to the garage apron and looks maybe dead?

Almost sure it's a moth...don't know what kind. I held a ruler over it and the wing to wing is almost 5 inches. Never seen one with markings/color like this one.

If it still alive...I would prob damage it by picking it up, so I'll leave it there.

If not common to MI....I might need to pay more attention to my neighbors.
Including the one always hauling dirt out of his basement.

Very cool. Yes, we had a Cecropia moth here do the same thing. Sat in place for a day or two, then fell off of the tree that it was on, and another day or two later it was just wings. I'm guessing it's come to the end of the line.

^^^
When I took the pic of it on the cement...the cam was only a couple inches away from it's head.
It didn't show any reaction...but I think it's eyes were open...hard to tell.

A few years back my family met in KC for a family portrait. There was a big moth on the window of my sisters room. Her 10 year old daughter was oohing and aahing at it through the window. A bird swooped down and snatched it up right before her eyes.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!

Hawaiians say a dead relative is visiting when a moth comes to your house.
