Liftmaster / Chamberlain with MyQ as well. Really works well. One limit of the MyQ is that each module can only handle 2 garage doors. I have a three-car garage and needed two of these units. A single module doesn't have the range to monitor all three garages, and it wasn't too expensive to get another one. The good news is that you can integrate multiple modules into one app.
Works great, and you can grant temporary access to someone for things like feeding your dog, watering your plants...etc. IIRC, some of the new Liftmasters may already have MyQ integrated into the main unit. |
I recently had to replace the double door opener on my 3 car garage. I have a 2-channel stand alone receiver that is wired to each of the 2 openers. The receiver receives signals from my 2 cars and an outside keypad along with various 2-button remotes that my kids use occasionally. I also have 2 flush mounted normally open pushbuttons by the door into the house. I didn't want to mess with any of this, as I'm I'm pretty sure that my 2004 FX35 wouldn't be compatible with most new openers and would need a repeater of some sort.
Most of the popular openers weren't capable of interfacing with my dry contact signals from the 2 channel receiver and wall pushbuttons. I did find a couple that were and settled on a Sommer Direct Drive unit. I picked up a 1042V004 for $228 on Amazon. It's unique in that the motor is in the part that's attached to the door and crawls along the stationary chain in the rail. It has soft start/stop and didn't require any reprogramming of anything. It could be a little faster, but I can wait a few extra seconds. |
My parents house was built in 1976. It still has the original door and opener, but has had maintenance done over the years. When you’re in the bonus room over the garage, that opener sounds like a freight train at 90 miles an hour.

I have the same lift Dan and can recommend it as well.

I forgot to mention that the Direct-Lift price includes a sliding jack tray, ramps, casters, and two drip trays. (when I bought mine)

I got a liftmaster and finally got around to installing MyQ. Afterall, the instructions say it "only takes minutes". So far, it has been about 200 minutes and still no go. I reluctantly resorted to Liftmaster Tech Support online. They eventually responded and said my problem is that your WiFi needs to be atleast 75 Mb/sec. I only have 50. But wait...50 Mb/sec is enough to run multiple devices + HDTV all at once. How much frekin' bandwidth do you need to open a dang door!?

Garage door openers. In seattle the yellow pages has 57 entries for garage door repair. They all go to the same guy. 15 years ago My screw drive was stripped, was told it was impossible to fix. Finally agreed for installer/repair guy to come out. I pointed at the stripped screw drive, all i need is that white screw piece of plastic… guy throws up his hands… ‘i cant do this. Call this parts place, theyll mail you one. Ill tell dispatch you werent home.’
Called the number, got the screw part and lube, installed and 15 years later its still fine. Probably screw part was damaged when a spring broke a few years earlier (where i did hire a pro to replace) Few years later it stopped working. Opened the main box and a plastic t that holds contacts had shattered. I said lets just get new one, wife says just glue it? Gorilla glue and its been good since. Wont say what i have was built so well but its over thirty years old and dead simple. Like childs play. Cant think of why id ever need a new one if they can keep selling me parts, but the plastic is really brittle now. Brand is Chamberlain. |
^^^ Chamberlain and Liftmaster are the same.
I only had my Liftmaster wall-mount opener for a month before the door sensors quit working. Lowes had a pair of replacements for $25...been working fine for two years after. |

Computing at scale. Wouldn't that be a great hack? Maybe have the garage doors mine blockchain? |

To the OP- is your garage detached and if so how far from the main house? I had a similar issue but with a wifi enabled sprinkler controller (would always drop of network). My garage is appx 50’ from house. Bandwidth was not the issue it was signal strength. (RSSI if I’m not mistaken). Additionally, our house is brick,plaster/lath construction (1910) and not very friendly with modern electronics and signal needs. I ended up buying an Orbi mesh wifi system which solved all my issues including signal strength in detached garage. Expensive but really helped all around.

I had a Liftmaster wall mounted unit installed to free up the area above my scissor lift. I had my installer guy raise up the channels the door rides in to just miss the numerous 8 foot lights I have above that bay.
One thing I really like is it has a mechanical lock mechanism. A large lock bolt it push through the lift channel on one side. It has a lever that it can be moved to unlock the door if the power is out, and I have to raise the door by hand. The unit has the option of a battery backup, but I certainly opted out of that. We have very reliable power, and I can open a garage door manually in the rare occasion of a power loss and I need to go somewhere. Another neat feature is the wall button has a motion sensor on it, so if I just go out into the garage to get something the light comes on automatically, and I don't need the 8 - 8 foot lights to see. |
replaced one of my Wayne Daltons with this.
It works good...but slow. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1641134599.jpg |
