A different car insurance question...

didn't want to mess-up rfuerst911sc thread.

Is it possible to insure a new car before you take possession of it?

The state of Michigan is declaring that MI drivers have been overcharged on the catastrophic fees for years. A $26 billion dollar surplus by the insurance companies is being refunded to the tune of $400/car. Car must on record of insurance as of Jan 31.

I won't have a VIN for a few weeks...but $400 would pay a few months worth.

That's a tough one. I'm sure you can put the intended policy in motion, but whether you can beat the system might be the question .

It might be worth a try. I will have to insure it anyways.

$27 billion surplus for that fund...incredible.
Why didn't I start an ins co. when I was in my 20's?

The car would be in the dealer’s name until the dealer submits a title application and you take possession, so I doubt it would be possible.

I am seeing where it must be on record by Oct 31st, 2021
https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2021/12/07/michigan-motorists-auto-insurance-refunds-400-per-vehicle/6414550001/
In a Monday letter to the state insurance agency, MCCA Executive Director Kevin Clinton said all vehicles insured as of Oct. 31, 2021, will receive $400 refunds, with one exception: Vehicles with "historical vehicle" plates will receive refunds of $80, he said.

The refund plan issued by the MCCA will result in $400 refunds sent to policyholders for every vehicle that was insured as of 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2021.

Glad that I didn't cost the Ins Co. the $640
$27 billion minus $640 will make a difference.
