Motorcycle pants

I espouse AGATT, and I always wear helmet, jacket, boots and gloves. But the reality is I just wear thick blue jeans when riding. I was looking at some heavy duty jean material pants at our local motorcycle megamart today. They have pockets in the knees if you want armor. Does anyone had direct experience, or know someone who has went down in those jeans?

I can, of course, just get the purpose built armored pants, but a lot of times and I will stop and want to walk around in a downtown area or a park when riding, and I like the idea of having something closer to jeans.

Any input appreciated.

Just anecdotal and third party. The stink was that since the jeans were loosely fitted, they didn't slide without bunching up and had torn.

I wear Klim pants and have no direct experience with riding jeans.

Denim is useless when sliding. Is it just a thicker weight of denim, or is it a different cloth altogether, maybe with some Aramid fibers in it or something?

I wear Olympia AirGlide pants for most of the season and Tourmaster in colder weather, full armor. No jeans ever.

I wear leather motorbike pants described as leather jeans. So they are much the same cut as jeans and have no knee pads of stuff like that. they look good, so you can do a ride to a cafe for brunch and look like a regular customer.

Back in my young and wild days with a BSA A10 650CC oil leaker.....I learned to go around things since the drum brakes were TERRIBLE! I also learned thathere are several items necessary to keep yourself in one piece in case you go down and as my motorcycle mentor told me...Some Day You Will!
So on my first trip to Hong Kong on the Big E I had two sets of motorcycle leathers made with silk lining to prevent road rash and they worked extremely well when I was hit one Sunday morning by a drunk driver. I flew about 30 feet or so and can still remember seeing the pavement coming up at me as I was "landing" on my head but I put both arms out and they absorbed the shock while scraping off most of the leather of my gloves and the back of the jacket! NO road rash although a crushed leaft knee that resulted in the ER doctor at Langly AFB hospital cutting off the leather boots and both legs of a custom pair of leathers! I tried to get him to not cut them and I remember he said okay I'll just pull them off and at the first tug on the left side I remember NOTHING until I woke up in a room in wonderful hospital gown! The nurse brought my clothes up to show me and chucked as I remember her sawing these WERE some very nice pants and jacket!

So the moral of the story is silk lined leather is your best friend!

I think jeans last about 10 feet when you're sliding down the road. There's Draggin Jeans, but I'm beyond skeptical. I'd suggest motorcycle pants that go over your jeans and zip off when you want to remove them. I used to wear an Aerostitch Roadcrafter one piece suit, and I could get in/out of it in about 10-15 seconds. Road rash is knarly beyond all expectation.

I have a pair of Aerostich Darien (over)pants. If I'm going to do any walking around town, I'll take them off. Just wear regular street clothes under them.

Check out Rev'it jeans. They're quite comfortable and are rated pretty good for slide resistance. I was taken down on mine but didn't really slide, more of just impact. Aside from a scraped knee, I was OK.

They don't seem to have done abrasion testing on their choices.

I have a pair of leather ridiing pants in my closet I've never worn. I can't imagine weariing them in the warm weather in this area. Didn't think of it in the beginning. No doubt good abrasion resistance, bit absolutely too hot.

With Noah, Aerostich Darian, have had them for about 25 years. Work great, zipper makes it easy to pull over pants or forbid shorts. And yes tested once, some marks but overall fine. Don’t trust jeans.

Been there...done that.
In high school years, a group of us did that around midnight for about an hour.
The only thing we wore were shoes.
