Outdoor clothing recommends

I'm planning on spending a lot more time outdoors going forward and am looking for recommendations on good clothing.
I'm looking for some good Gortex pants for skiing and winter work/hiking/camping pants etc.
I'm looking to buy some good quality clothes that will last. Any recommends would be greatly appreciated.
I have no idea of any of the new technologies and there seems to be a fair amount of people here that enjoy the outdoors
Thanks

I really like Revelution Race pants. I use them for my Kayaking and outddor activities. Even use them when cutting firewood and running my sawmill. They are tough, comfortable, dry quickly after wading in water.

If you dont want to deal with international shipping they now have them at Amazon

Filson.. old school tech!

You might look around on huckberry.com. some of their stuff may work for you.

Both companies carry a lot of made in USA stuff.

other thoughts... Orvis, Patagonia, REI...

For skiing I love my ARC'TERYX shell, last season it replaced a Marmot shell I had used for almost 20 years. They make a great rain jacket too, my wife has one and its super light and performs very well.

For ski pants I have been very happy with North Face.

I have a rain shell made by marmot for the past 10 years. My 20 year old North Face fleece jacket are worn thin in many areas but I wear it almost every winter for a couple months. It just feels right to me. A jacket isn't really needed here but for those cold nights and mornings. Its been with my on many camping trips and trips around the world. I would buy it again, but someone mentioned to me that the buttons on the new models are plastic and not brass or copper like mine. REI have some great stuff but for tough bush whacking, any of those construction type companies like Carhartt will do just fine. Not sure if they make a water proof tough pants or outer jacket.

I live a mile from one Columbia outlet and work a mile from another. Columbia isn’t the best. Ayles above has the best. But, Columbia is great performance for the buck. I ski, fish, hike, mountain bike, motorcycle in Oregon. We have wet, muddy, crap winters. I wear Columbia all the time. No complaints about the clothes. Shoes? Find another brand.

Well, I did splurge felt ok about it since I got so many years out of the Marmot. Hope this one lasts just as long.

My previous ski pants were Columbia and I got quite a few seasons out of them. Weren’t bad at all and would still recommend them.

I had a Columbia Gortex Jacket that leaked. Half my body would be soaking wet after 5 min of standing out in light rain. Was shopping for shoe for my kid some years ago and mentioned to the sales person only because I was wearing it. I was told to leave it with him and they should fix it. Instead I was mailed a brand new jacket within two weeks. Now, that's backing up their product.

Northface would basically life time their jackets and gear. About 20 years, my down jacket had a busted seam. I took it back to see if I can get a hood for it. The sales guys said to call them and ship it back. They fixed it and gave me a hood, but it was different color but I didn't care as long as I was kept warm in the cold. many of the upper end gear has service liek it, but not sure about if they still do that now. I think companies like North Face's quality for the masses had slipped. I think they still make an expedition grade gear compare to most you see out in the dept stores or the malls.

Mountain hardware makes a good products also. Pretty tough jacket I use for skiing or just beating about in the bush.

Marmot and mountain hardwear are my favorite brands. I have some Columbia snow pants that are good too, but heavier than the others.

Also, Mountain Hardware is a Columbia premium brand. Have a bunch. It is pretty wonderful.

I don't have to deal with cold weather, but for my outdoor gear, I've had good luck with Arc'teryx brand cloths. Another brand that seems like quality stuff to me is Ex Officio.

REI sells lots of good stuff from the brands above to less expensive stuff that's still pretty good. You can also get good stuff from "Whole Earth Provisions."

All of my gortex is from REI. Still works fine after 20 years. If I were climbing Everest I would go with high dollar North Face.

look no further than the hunting industry.

the Gold Standard is Sitka. maybe First Lite. i know they used to make their hunt clothing in non-camo colors before. not sure now.

but i once tried to learn to snowboard in a pair of Sitka Stormfront pants and they beyond kickedass. they are made to hike in after big game, so a lot of thought went into body movement. i rode a snowmobile with the pant. unbelievable. the level of protection is tough to decipher sometimes.

be prepared to eff up some money.

Ex-officio makes some neat stuff. I have a long sleeve shirt that has some kind of bug repellant coating. I can’t sleep anything in it but the skeeters always stay clear!

Agree with REI, if you have one nearby go checks them out. Even their house brand stuff is great quality and built to use. Their staff is super helpful too, and can help you understand the trade offs between cost and functionality with most of the brands they carry.
