Very well stated and I certainly agree.
  • The first two are obvious.
  • The third is where politics and religion overlap, so it really falls under the first two.
  • The last one - I just don't understand how it has became so emotional/political, but I really do think the moderators should move the two threads on this topic started by member "Tobra" to the "Politics and Religion" forum.
Reading the threads on the topic of the COVID-19 vaccine is like watching the combination of a slow-motion car crash and Jerry Springer.

Agreed. Also applies to every thread in PARF...

The older I get, the less respect I have for people in general.
Never mind those 4 topics!

I bet that goes both ways.

There is a really worthy book out there. The book is titled "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a ****." It allows you the insight to let go of the things in this life you can't do anything about. Pretty much applies to the suggested topics listed for us to avoid. I'm through debating with Liberals over what they saw on TV yesterday! Now I smile, respectfully place hand on their shoulder and say; "You know, since I talked to you last, I AGREE with you!" That ends the need to keep making (push me-pull you) debate over things you truly cannot change. It leaves the heated arguing far behind... We all have strong feelings about what's going on in and around our nation. But it's futile to believe you will be able to change anything or change another's opinion (or your own). Let it go! Drive your Porsche, enjoy your life...

I have not read this book but have downloaded it.

I saw first hand a guy use this technique to deal with a drunk guy at a hockey game. Drunk guy kept saying stupid 5hit to start an argument. Buddy kept telling drunk guy, ‘yup I know. I totally agree’ and ‘yah, you’re right. Everyone agrees with you.’ Drunk guy gave up and went somewhere else to start a fight.

Avoiding conflict isn't easy

That's a great example of holding adversity at bay. Being a bit of a senior, I spilled a full glass of iced tea across the table over my three friends. I heard one say "Jeez, Donny! That's really stupid!" My reply (with an innocent shrug) was "I couldn't agree more".... all smiles Uncle Billy

When it was politically advantageous to make the coronavirus a topic here, some jabbered about it incessantly. Now that political winds have shifted, the same folks have now decided it does not belong here. Like many topics posted here, political discussions that are not going their way should not exist. They are fine with these otherwise...and sneak them in wherever they can...fooling no one. Even in threads where we mourn the deaths of others. Then they are outraged when there is a response.

Next, threads pop up like this...where the same people can pretend that it is someone else...and try to invoke some sort of universal shaming for anyone that does not share their opinion on those topics. Stop making threads political and you will quickly stop getting political responses that disagree with yours. The old "PARFers are ruining everything" dog just will not hunt as many that drag that old adage out also post in PARF, are banned from PARF for poor behavior, or just left butt-hurt because their argument was so poor that they were laughed at. They are quick to post political topics here because their ideas really do not have to withstand scrutiny. As soon as their argument fails, they complain and get the thread sent to PARF.

Folks that regularly post mostly in PARF generally do not start the political threads here in OT or initially turn them to politics. They already have a forum for to discuss politics and do. Many of you drop by, drop a chuck of fecal matter and retreat to OT...so you know about it. Those folks referred to as PARFERs just refuse to let only one side post political posts in OT without examination/response. Spin it up and expect a response. Folks driving a vehicle with a pano roof should simply not throw rocks.

Why don't people talk about "hookers and blow" or post partially-dressed photos of their wife/significant others here any more? Why are there no longer runs on the dragon? Did Vash run out of recipes?

I won't discuss religion, and abortion...they seem to be closely related, and very personal. I comment on politics now, and then because of the stupidity I see. As far as coronavirus, it's much more of an individual choice matter, but so many believe in mandates, it is tough to discuss without getting angered.

Have no time for some peoples political rhetoric on here, who feel the need to bring it up at every occasion, while discussing completely unpolitical related topics

Gives me the impression they're lacking a little something or purpose in their daily life so feel the need to start an argument with their comments

They need some stone work to finish to keep them busy. I always have multiple farm projects going on, not much time for debate.

:D busy hands make for idle minds

I should have really used the word 'debate' instead of 'argument', makes it sound like they're actually achieving something constructive with their time :D

Politics including sub category economics. No economics thread has ever not been PARF'd.

I'll see your "Snow Tires" and raise you a Sniper. Call or fold?

I do believe that a BAW & a Sniper trumps your "Snow Tires" Now unless you are holding a Ziggythecat, I think I won this hand...
