Reminded me of this JJW chestnut, an actual story about a beach holiday... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wgh8LSIP4Bk" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I didn't anyone mention John Mellencamp or Bob Segar, a couple of great story tellers.
I'm sure there's a story in the enigma "Hotel California" but I've never been sure there was meant to be much of one. Just good music and some rhyme. I go way back to the beginnings of rock, so I've heard a million. An interesting fact is that "Stagger Lee" was a true story that happened in 1895. From Wiki: "Stagger Lee", also known as "Stagolee" and other variants, is a popular American folk song about the murder of Billy Lyons by "Stag" Lee Shelton, in St. Louis, Missouri at Christmas, 1895. The song was first published in 1911 and first recorded in 1923, by Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians. A version by Lloyd Price reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959. The story changed over the years as stories do. I won't paste the lyrics or a video. If you're young enough to have never heard some of the old stuff, it's easy to find. Most folk songs, blues and Tin Pan Alley songs all had a story line. BTW, I can remember riding my bike, a dollar bill in my hand, to the record store to buy my 45 RPM copy of "Stagger Lee." My dad was not happy but he didn't flip out until I bought a Little Richard tune. He broke that in half after ripping it out of the player. |

Not just a story song, but an entire story album. A story of jilted lovers that goes from sweet to angry then back again with all of the emotions in between. It is a fantastic collaboration of two great artists.

A classic story song from Avenged Sevenfold, A Little Piece of Heaven - pretty gross, but the grossness is tongue-n-cheek.
