Dog woes

I am watching a friends dog for the week and he is driving everyone nuts. He doesn’t stop moving and doesn’t go to sleep at night. I walk him, have him do laps in the pool but he just keeps going. On the bed, off the bed. I put in sun room and he just barks. He’s like this when I visit him at his home.
He’s a good dog, he just needs a lot of space and attention. I thought I was doing him a favor because my friend typically just locks in hallway and has him walked twice a day when on vacation.
Suggestions before he and I end up kicked out of the house?

You could try some "calming chews" from the pet store. If that doesn't work, maybe some nice bourbon.

Maybe a marrow bone now and then. Occupies them for a few hours.

Nylabone. Trust me. Best $12 you’ll ever spend.

Or Benadryl. Seriously.

not a marrow bone. dog could (not probable, but you never know) get hurt with a bone.

but go buy a dog toy you can stuff with treats. that can occupy the dog for hours.

or drop the dog off at a kennel and your friend can pay the bill.

Get one of those rubber ball that has a spot for the peanut butter treats inside. It takes an hour or two to get it all.

You can get a Kong and fill it with peanut butter and freeze it. That will keep him/her occupied for hours. What breed is the dog?

I second that. That doggo mind is restless with nervous energy and the body follows. Can't train him or get his attention while it's bouncing all over the place in that state, per Cesar Milan 'Dog Whisperer'. You need to completely wear him/her out first. Maybe bicycle with a longer leash or take him to a dog park. Kenneling or putting in a small space to sleep is actually good because they feel secure in their den.

A worn out dog is better than a dead one.

My former boss went to Hawaii for a couple of weeks, and I watched over his two dogs, labs. One got to looking pretty bad, so I called out my vet to the house. She said he's about to go. She made some arrangements for me (the owner too) through her network of contacts to take him to the local vet.

Next day, I pick the dog up at the vet, and I'm on the road to Texas A&M, and he's on an oxygen bottle. Pyothorax. 20 days and 20K later, we pick him up.

That was one expensive vacation. I felt hopeless, but called the right people.

We give Owen Walter benadryl when it's time for his hair cut. He is big coward when it comes to sharp objects, and it takes the edge off the screaming.

the dog misses his regular butler and best friend

he's upset and nervous, feels abandoned

I agree with the knot put butter idea - also maybe call your friend and ask him to speak to his dog on the phone - might settle him down some

Nylabones are the best. They occupy the dog for hours.

Although having a dog like you describe, might not work.

Haven't heard from the OP in awhile. Hopefully he's out walking the dog.

He’s a Boston terrier. I swam and walk him again tonight. Asleep on couch now. See how he does thanks for all the advice. Let’s see if he can make it through the night.

Ooh, that's a bundle of energy. Take him to the park and play catch...for an hour. Twilight is good as it isn't as hot.

Boston Terrier eh? I'd worry more about his farting problem than his barking. My Uncle had a Boston Terrier named "Duke" who could clear a room in no time flat.
