What happened to Zeke's thread

I kicked on the computer just now to see what's up wit you fine folks and noticed it missing. He must have removed it?

Jeff Alton 08-13-2021 07:13 PM

What was it about?

look 171 08-13-2021 08:26 PM

Something about his speaking about the trades and if anyone would listen. Couple of the guys jumped on him.

Jeff Alton 08-13-2021 08:45 PM

Hopefully he did not take it down.... Sad what goes on here sometimes...

Zeke 08-14-2021 07:39 AM

I did have it removed. No point in asking a simple question here because the overall reading skills and comprehension are nil. Believe me, I have looked long and hard for a forum to join that maintains some level of intellect.

I like the diverse subjects here and I get some news before it hits MSM. But that's the extent of any benefit to wasting time here. I'm fully in tabs camp, this place is way too populated with morons. There are a few dozen members I wish I could take with me and start a new forum.

No one jumped on me that I know of. My question brought out all the wrong responses as no one comprehended the question. They just want to brag about how good they are. Bragging is OK but not what I was after.

So I had it pulled.

sugarwood 08-14-2021 07:44 AM

Sorry, pal, but you are one of those morons.

Hey, what is the best way to peel a banana?
I have 50 years of experience in peeling bananas.
Never tells anyone how to peel a banana.

Starts a thread and then refuses to reveal whatever nonsense info he purported to have.
Easily the most pointless and idiotic thread of the year.
Some people should not have access to a computer.

Oh, and tabs is a mentally ill lunatic who has been predicting the collapse of society since he was in 3rd grade.

...case in point.

Tell us what you really think...we can take it. :D

IMHO.....talk forums serve 3 basic purposes:

1. Entertainment
2. Venting
3. Exchange of information and/or ideas

I keep this in mind when I participate on a talk forum. The negative comments we see are serving purpose(s) 1 and/or 2 for someone.

There will always be horse's asses on the Internet, just as there are away from the Internet.

You can't really escape them as long as you are tethered to the populace.

A thick skin goes a long way in helping one cope, along with an understanding of the 3 purposes I outlined above.

Baz pretty much hit the nail on the head. That's why my post count for the past 20+ years is so low, & I mostly stick to comments and info that try to convey information rather than opinion.

As a (sort of) member of the trades, I'm curious what your question was?

look 171 08-14-2021 09:29 AM

I had to think about that before I type an answer also, Dave.

Me too. One of the primary parts of my company now is to bring back trade education, skill sets and job search assistance, so that we can actually try to Buy American at some future point. My whole building is nothing but local small businesses manufacturing or producing things.

Ever see a monkey eat a banana? Sometime's they bite it in the middle and peel from the center to the ends. ... not saying it's wrong...

Tell us more about that. I find that very interesting. Shall we start another thread on this?

Zeke 08-14-2021 09:46 AM

Sorry some of you gents didn't see the original question. Without repeating the title and text verbatim, I asked if when considering a significant home improvement would you think you need an architect, a designer, and/or a design/build contractor. One, two, or all 3.

What I got back was basically 'I can/did it all by myself' which was not the question. The premise behind the question is that some folks may not know the roles of each and how much they may be duplicate services. Therefore, would advice about just that aspect have any value to the uninitiated.

Please don't respond to the question. I was just being polite to those that wondered what the thread was about. Obviously this is not the place for that type of question and at this point I wouldn't give a modicum of consideration to any thoughts on the subject from PPOT.

I've taken the model elsewhere in the form of a survey of real homeowners planning real improvements.

I work for TXRX Labs www.txrxlabs.org, a non-profit which is now the anchor tenant and co-owner of the East End Maker Hub www.eastendmakerhub.org
The EEMH is comprised of 70 or so suites of various sizes and capabilities, which are filled by start-ups and small businesses. They're required to be a producing facility of some kind (no software app stuff, no VCs, etc), they need to be pretty local, and they need to preferentially hire from within our district, a historically minority but manufacturing area in Houston.

TXRX Labs is a makerspace gone professional, we teach classes and certifications on a growing number of trade subjects (ASE, welding, machining, QC, etc). We also do design and prototyping for companies, especially the tenants in the EEMH, and we still do classic makerspace stuff, like have memberships and teach night classes on nearly every type of manufacturing or crafting that exists. Our core values are DIY, trades, skills, and the idea that we can't Buy American until we can Build American, and that won't happen until we Train American.

Zeke 08-14-2021 10:10 AM

Mike, that is excellent. If we had that here I'd be on it in a flash.

Edit: Although I'm not qualified in manufacturing or anything high tech. In the same vain, we need low tech training in this country as well. It's getting harder each year to find craftsperson's in the building trades. And that greatly affects the remodeling business, by many accounts, more difficult than building from scratch. Add in historical context and it's becoming nigh impossible to replicate original elements.

For example (and directed at look171 amongst others), consider a pedestal bath sink. Can you find a plumber that will do the supply lines in chrome over solid copper? Or do all the plumbers use SS braided lines that look like ass? I specify solid and bent (curved) symmetrically. I won't even go into a jerk that will use a plastic P-trap in this situation.

I can't even find a painter that can hand cut a perfect line between colors, say like wall to casing.
