Some of the many hours of chit chat with the announcers was actually entertaining and interesting. Some of the announcers had some really long on air times. They were as tough as the drivers. I recently went to a track day at Eagles canyon, near Decatur TX. We had 8 - 25 minute sessions. I was driving my street car, basically stock 1985 911 and there was no pressure, no racing, just have fun nad let others in modern cars pass, with a wave by, laid back track fun. Twice after 25 minutes I was exhausted, and ready to just get off the track anyway when the checker flag was waved. 25 minutes at speeds of a old street car and no pressure whatsoever to race wiped me out. I honestly can't imagine 4 hours of real racing at real race speeds, at night, with the real tangible pressure to go fast, and pass the competition, and not let the competition pass. Just beyond comprehension of my mind. |
So back to the Grid Girls. They are now driving...
Sophia Floersch was on the all female Richard Mille team that got shunted off in the overnight hours. She also drives for ABT in the DTM series. She had a horrific crash in F3 a few years ago. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1629751749.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1629751761.jpg |
I half heartedly applaud Motor Trend for their coverage. 25 hours. Thirty minutes prior and 30 minutes post race.
But just like our friends at ESPN, MT shut off coverage on their cable channel just as the winners were walking on to the podium. Last thing I remember is the announcers saying that one driver from overall winner was missing. Mejor que nada but honestly, can't these stations get it right? I mean, who wants to see a rerun of a DIY car show instead of Le Mans post race activities? If it were NASCAR, we would have all the pre and post race armchair quarterbacking we didn't want until our eyes and ears bled. |
In case anyone missed Sophia's crash in F3 here it is. The real incident begins at about the 1 minute mark.

On a related note, if you never went there, do look at http://press.porsche.com
Under "Media Gallery" / Motorsport (other categories are cool to), you can download super high res pics of P-cars from Le mans and recent races... The coca cola 991 they raced in Atlanta earlier this year was super photogenic too... All printable at costco or what have you pretty big, suitable for decorating your man cave. Some nice Le Mans shots.. |
WRT found the issue that took out their leading car on the last lap .

It is a 24 hour race, and 23 hours 59 minutes just does not count as a finish. I feel for the team. |
worse yet, car started up just fine the next day
makes you wonder if they might not have managed to finish if driver had gotten out and banged the cables and boxes a bit or maybe could have done so from inside the vehicle even.. |
