"Interesting" car club...

www.mulhollandraceway.org

I fluctuated between laughter (whomever is writing it can sure mince language) and pity. Mostly, I just thought about how dangerous those guys are.

They better not be 10/10ths driving - I've BEEN road rallying (proper, closed road stuff) and I still only drove about 8 to 9/10ths, just like all the experienced people in the field...

They aren't kidding Cam...this has gone on for quite some time. Only the insane need apply...Think you have a fast car? Think you're a "pro"? These guys will test you, and the price may end up being more than you were willing to pay. Not worth it to me. But to each his own.

Cam, while I don't run with those guys I do use their website as a useful tool in deciding which way I'm taking to the beach from the valley. Those roads are pretty much within 20 minutes of me and I've done nearly all of 'em . I don't condone street racing and I don't "race" up the canyon, but if I'm by myself or with a friend we'll usually drive non-competitively but aggressively up the canyon.

Nice Tabs. Any bets on how long it stays there?

The dude doing the writing seems to be one of the most arrogant people alive - his pontificating on "double declutching" completely cracked me up, ex post reading, of course He honestly appears to beleive that he has the driving skills to analyse this lot:

Quote:
I regularly do all three {types of double declutching}. No particular one is optimal in every instance. A diminishing radius blind apex right hander might be the perfect place for ex ante apex heel and toe push {his name for revving the engine higher than needed in a downshift}. I found that the subsequent push I induced enhanced consistency of my drift on a particular late apex turn, partially negating my loose condition on entry, while setting me up for an ideal entry into a blind, diminishing radius 2nd gear turn.
ROTFLMAO - OK, so we have a diminishing radius blind apex right hander into another diminishing radius second gear turn. How exactly, if the first corner is blind, did he know that he needed to perform said heel and toe push in order to set himself up for the next corner. If its blind, you can't prepare for it....

He is an ass-clown. This is pure BS.

And the section on "car preparation" - LOL. "Standard suspension is best for canyons" - gee, I thought it was a compromise by the manufacturer.

I have no problem with people going into quiet areas and giving their car a good spanking down winding roads, in particular 2nd -3rd gear stuff. I have a definite problem with people who are proud of the fact they regularly achieve triple digit speeds and drift around blind corners. I really don't mind if they crash their own car (and not get hurt). I mind a lot if they hurt others because they are so incrediby selfish.

And finally, there is a lot of talk about "race tracks are for pussies" - there is no unexpected. Well, to turn it around, there appears to be a lot more at stake on a race track, as you are uninsured. These guys appear to deliberately wind up their insurance cover so as to be ok in a crash in the canyons - kind of like -it will happen one day.

But most of all, the site gives off a vibe of relatively unskilled (albeit better than me!), self-absorbed, egotistical, selfish wankers with no clue about their own relative skill level - just an absolute belief in their "bravery" and that they are "the best drivers in God's canyons".

Its pretty pathetic. I can almost imagine them standing around, talking about their canyon runs, like a big mutual masturbation session.

Cam? Can it be true? I'm agreeing with a left wing guy? Must be so...
A shame Mike Marshall couldn't design & drive his own pursuit car to nail these idiots...Actually tho, I wish they'd come up to Oregon & try their "God's Canyon" stunts...drifting around a blind corner into a loaded log truck would prevent them filing any insurance claims...

Haha - I guess I am a left wing guy - thats how I voted last time(probably the only guy in the investment banking industry who is).

I can't stop thinking about these guys - they are proud of something I would be ashamed of...

(edit)

This is the same guy - I did not know that the written word could sound so pompous....

What utter stupidity!

Going 10/10ths on Canyon roads? Yeah, right! Maybe when they ride their Big-Wheels through the playground "canyons!"

But: it's on the internet, so all they say MUST BE TRUE!

from one of the 'experts' on that site:
Loose: oversteer: Poor heel & toe. Poor transition from throttle to brakes. Front and rear skids will diverge...No choice but to stay on the binders...not what you want to do when the back end's coming around.
That's the most rediculous description of oversteer I have EVER heard of!
Oversteer is a condition when the slip angle of the rear tires is greater than the slip angle of the front tires.
Also: staying on the brakes will not help: with oversteer, gentle application of the throttle can help counter the sliding effect.

Sounds like a bunch of 11th graders hoping to start driving soon.

Idiots!

from the link Cam posted:

10/10ths canyon driving is dangerous... to the next power.
Implications are awesome. Requires steadfast concentration, intuition,
transitive preference logic, inner peace, patience, maturity, restraint,
and a sense of geography. Requires foresight. Ethics. One mistake, and
your financial life is a foregone conclusion. The downforce you're
getting from that boy-racer rear wing? It ain't going to be the same at
7,000 feet.

Maturity? Ethics??! This guy is full of horse*****.

I propose a new sport: emptying magazines of .45 hollowpoints at canyon "racers".

Blue? .45 not enough energy...I propose shooting from the other side of the canyon...with Barrett .50's...this would be the ballistics study equal to the driving style these bozos espouse.
