Me: BMW 3 series for sale $5000.00

Market place messages :
1) $1700 cash?
2) Trade for a 1997 Jeep Cherokee ?
3). Trade for a Chrysler 200?
4) 2400 cash? can you hold it till next Wednesday? That is my day off
5), trade for a pit bike , and 1000.00 cash ?
6) Is the price negotiable ?
Im not complaining, market place works, but you have to weed through hundreds of useless messages to find that one buyer .
Last few adds, I put my low number and just said " firms "
Do you ever miss the days of running a newspaper ad, or auto trader ad ?

If the $1700 offer falls through, I can do $1,500 in 60 days if you drop it off. With a full tank of gas.

A guy in Colorado is trying to sell his 1999 Tacoma 4x4 extra cab with 240k on the clock for $12,750 on a fly fishing FB page. Let's just say he's not getting a lot of love!

This reminds me of the older Palm Springs woman who sold her '67 or '68 Camaro to Mike of Wheeler Dealers. When he went to look at the car he liked it a lot. Offered her below her asking price to get a good deal on it.
She replied "If I'd have only wanted that much I would have advertised it for that much."
He did buy it, but at her full asking price.

Try putting a Porsche 911 on there! Yikes!!

My favorite so far has been a dealer offering to make selling my car "easy" on me. I have it advertised at 38K so I have some wiggle room and have been clear 35K is my bottom line. He offers me 30K cash... to make it "easy". I said I'll take 5K more and difficult but thanks for the offer.

One guy, after I told him 35K was my bottom dollar, told me "I can be there tomorrow with 30K cash". I said you'll be 5K short and waste a trip.

I'll trade you a non-working original nintendo with 17 and a half game cartridges, one and a half turkey sandwiches, a small back of freetos and then I'll include a check for $23.69, but I want you to give me $20 cash back.

I think people are just so accustomed to haggling that when they see a good deal they feel like they still have to haggle. I've had guys get upset with me because I wouldn't budge on the price of a machine even though the machine was one of the best prices you could find advertised anywhere on the net (short of CL scams).

If I sell something, I generally ask a little more than I want, and expect to come down a little. If people feel like they got a deal, they seem happier.

For me personally, I'll buy something at a good price. I may ask for a little bit off because I assume most folks are prepared to come down a little like I am.

If the ask is too far from what I'd consider reasonable, I don't even ask. I don't want to argue or go back and forth 100 times to try to get them to come down to something that I consider reasonable.

The problem is people base offers on nothing. I don't mind an educated buyer using comparable sales trying to talk me down. But it's those folks that just pull a number out of thin air that get under my skin.

Like the above example, asking $5k, "would you take $1700?" "No, but I'd take $5300."
If they ask a silly question, they'd get a silly answer.

When I see these lists, I wonder how many are real and how many were created just to be funny or go viral. I suspect it's a mix.

That's exactly how I roll. I once asked a buyer making a ridiculously lowball offer on a machine "Which parts would you like for that amount?"

You have to put "FIRM" in capital letters about 50 times in your ad, and even then you will get tire kickers, spammers, low ballers, and knuckleheads......

“I thought that your ad said, ‘best offer?’”

”That isn’t my best offer.”

I was trying to sell a car before a cross-country move. In fact, I put that in the ad as the reason why I was selling the car; I was moving and didn't want the expense/hassle of shipping a car. I still got offers for trades.

lemme guess - craigslist ?

I put some like-new bmw E30/2002 steelies there, and I had people asking me where they were manufactured... I generally reply "eastern uzbekistan by way of ECS tuning".

I am enjoying being a sarcastic ass and not selling, at this point...

Shoot... I just deleted a text inquiring if I would sell my house if I got exactly what I was asking for. I'm trying to decide how much to ask for it now....

My mega-yacht just came into view

When you post something on CL, you will inevitably get an inquiry 30 seconds later asking if “the item is still available?”

I always reply, “nope, I threw it in the dumpster.”
