Movies about the computer industry
Now watching a great documentary called "General Magic", a company most people never knew about. They basically thought-up our modern smartphone/touchscreen culture a decade before it began becoming mainstream into fruition. They hinted at Apple being both their savior and nemesis. The movie also delves into the world of genius young adults without focus, organization, a relevant business plan, but having enormous creativity and nowhere to go with it.

The t.v. series "Halt and Catch Fire" is a bit more of a interpersonal drama, but it touches on the same type of environment and culture. There are quite a few references to the communication progresses made from using the good old rotary bakelite of yesteryear to our devices of today.

The t.v. series "Mr. Robot" is much more of a suspense puzzler instead of computers. More of a corporate-computer-themed movie. It has the distinct notes of the Matrix, V is for vendetta, and other past psychodrama sci-fi mixed in. Some scenes are stretched out beyond the breaking point or glossed over (I was disappointed with the handling of the ending especially) but worthy of watching through.

I really like Antitrust, for all those geeks like me, you’ll get the similarities to computer companies.

Revolution OS. I show it every term in my Linux class.
The financials parts will make you cry (maybe) and stop at the very end before they play the Free Software Song. They suck. |

Valley of the Boom is a 6 Episode Nat Geo Docudrama that deals with the tech rise and fall of the 1990's in Silicon Valley.
The series centers around three companies: Netscape, theGlobe.com, and Pixelon, as well as a couple of other smaller companies. It is well written with some decent 20/20 insight from modern commentators. As a self-proclaimed "Data Nerd," I enjoyed their approach to a time when technology was on the cusp of taking over the world...
