Drug shortages anyone?

I've been taking sulfasalazine for many years and now it is on back order. FDA website states that the backlog may be cleared by July. Anyone else experiencing Rx shortages?

Not exactly what you’re going through but I was at the drug store the other day looking for something to help with a muscle strain and there were slim pickings. 1 of these, 2 of those, none of them kind of thing.

With a lot of prescription drugs being made in China, no real surprise if we're seeing shortages. Hope you can find an alternative.

And yeah there are more shortages
https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/drugshortages/dsp_ActiveIngredientDetails.cfm?AI=Sulfasalazine+T ablets&st=c&tab=tabs-4&panels=1

Hit "Teva" it shows as available. Maybe a generic?

Apparently methotrexate is an alternative but I'm not liking the side effects. I am a tender fella doncha know.

You don't want to be taking methotrexate.

Can the medication be applied from the other end of your alimentary tract?

I ask because that is a colitis med, and I think they have suppositories. Those would be more available because of just what you are thinking.

Asacol maybe is not in as short a supply because it is not generic

Medication shortages are a never ending source of frustration for people in that line of work. When "just in time" became an inventory standard, so did "back ordered" which is usually code for "too bad, so sad, figure something else out because we saved $100 doing this last year."

Maybe 5 years ago there was a shortage of local anesthetic. Seems like that is a pretty basic sort of drug to be running out of.

I get a weekly email from the FDA that shows shortages:

This is just the new list this week.

FDA Drug Shortages
Amoxapine Tablets (Updated - Currently in Shortage)
Azacitidine for Injection (Updated - Currently in Shortage)
Famotidine Tablets (Updated - Currently in Shortage)-
Guanfacine Hydrochloride Tablets (Updated - Currently in Shortage)
Leuprolide Acetate Injection (Updated - Currently in Shortage)
Loxapine Capsules (Updated - Currently in Shortage)
Nizatidine Capsules (Updated - Currently in Shortage)

For a current list of all medications in shortage, look on the FDA website. There are currently 156 on the list.

I'm pretty sure that just about anything smaller than a small grapefruit can be applied that way, but that doesn't mean that you'd want to. I hear kids are doing it with liquid via tampons
