Black trim restorer product

Which one do you use to restore the black trim on your car? I’ve tried Back to Blavk which does a good job but lasts only a few weeks. Have you tried ceramic coating or anything else?

I have heard that ceramic coating lasts longer, although I have not documented that myself. I think most of the rest of the products are basically just silicone.

Chemical Guys has a product that I use and works well. VRP, Vinyl Rubber Protectant.
Try it, I think you'll like it. A little bit goes a long ways.

I've had good luck with Maguiers plastic and rubber cleaner.

I tried 303 aerospace for a while, but the Maguiers worked a lot better.

I had a professional ceramic coating applied to my car. He used CQUARTZ Dlux Trim & Wheel Coating on the trim around the mirrors, bumperettes, etc., they look new again and it has been 4yrs since having it done. While the CarPro PERL does nice on trim it wears off and this Dlux trim coating seems to last a long time. I would consider having that done once and not having to worry about it for a long time.

Once it's damaged none really work all that well for any lnght of time. I have found 303 prtectant to work the best and has UV prtectants to keep it from getting worse.

All of these protectant products are probably great but do they make discolored trim black again? I think that you need a dye for that, (once they lose their pigment). I'm also looking for a good product, I think that I had something from Leatherique in the past that was pretty good. Looked like ink.

I use this stuff called WD40

This last months, if not years. Smells like a polyurethane of some sort. It has a skull and crossbones on the label, so it must be good. Much better than the local autoparts store stuff that only last several weeks.

Propane torch or Heat gun. Lots of YouTube videos on it. Lots of TikToks too LOL.

Works great. For a week or two. My car faded in two weeks.

I've heard the oil in peanut butter helps. Just rub it on....

An old trick that I learned 100 years ago is ATF on vinyl tops. I think that the guy who told me discovered that one by mistake.

Farm Project did a test on this subject.

The interior plastic in my new Taco is of the cheapest variety ever. It scratches when you breathe on it. I used a black creme shoe polish to touch it up. That won't work externally but I wanted to play too.

Thanks everyone!

Youtube's Project Farm did a comparison test on these products. It's a very thorough examination as all of his videos are. His conclusion was Cerakote and I bought some. If there's any black left, it will come through looking very nice and the stuff lasts.

The trim on my 06 Chevy PU was pretty dry and dull. Not anymore. Just backing up hcoles.

Cool, I'll try it! Thx

this.
my brother bought some on the recommendation of some boat restoration guy for his bass boat.

the guy said it was made for black trim on cars. my brother wiped it on his truck and he said it looked new and stayed looking new. i was gonna get some, but my wife is getting rid of her car anyways, so i quit caring.

speeder 09-13-2021 07:47 AM

Yeah, we heard about that. :(
