Rain
It started last night.
Haven’t seen any for three months. Prior to that it was extremely dry. I was in Texas a month ago and was amazed how green it was compared to western Oregon where I live. (It’s brown here!) I have been on pins and needles for months as the fire risk is so high. Smoke came and went all summer. Even yesterday, it was a little smokey. My go-to off road area has been closed for months due to fire risk. Now open. Feel better now. Back to a more normal experience. |

We are super dry here. We haven't mowed in a month because there's been no rain and hence, the grass hasn't grown. Because the ground here is mostly clay, we have cracks in the ground throughout our property. The cracks are big enough to fit your hand into (but I don't because of snakes, scorpions and tarantulas). The stuff in the photos is green because it's in shade under an oak tree. The rest of the yard is greenish brown. We were forecast to get 3-5" of rain when the hurricane went past last week. I think we ended up getting <1/8", probably a lot less.
I'm glad that you guys are getting some. I know we'll get some eventually.

I’m in the same boat. Can’t do much clearing because a spark could burn down the county. Supposed to rain tomorrow. Hopefully it will and bring enough to ease the fire danger.

Air quality in the Willamette Valley is now vastly improved....

I live where the OP lives and I couldn't be happier that it's gonna rain all weekend.

Had it very dry here most of the year.
T-storms would pass by either to the east or north. I'd see the rain in the distance, and it'd litterally bypass me. Local creeks are dry that I've never seen dry. Amazing how much variety there can be in weather. |

We were supposed to max out at 15% chance of rain today. We are getting a light sprinkle now. I'll take it.

That's not grass, it's Nutsedge.
You wanna get rid of it or soon it's all you'll have. Spreads fast and can get out of control in a hurry.

Thanks. We've got it in a few spots. We've got a wide range of stuff. Our main "yard" is about 2 acres. I think there is a few spots of St Augustine near the house, but the rest of the yard varies a lot. Some of the yard is horseherb, some is frog fruit, and then there is a wide variety of various grasses. I'll watch the nutsedge. I think the only place that we've got much right now is in the shade under the oak and pecan trees (1 ea) that are pretty central.

Nutsedge has a triangular stem. You can roll it with your fingers to feel the 3 points.
