Over $200 for 25 oz?

Bob Kontak 09-17-2021 05:03 PM

Meh.

I can buy 1.5 tires for my car for $200.

masraum 09-17-2021 05:15 PM

I'm hoping they are 750ml bottles, not 12 or 16oz.

I feel pretty silly when I pay for some of the stouts that I buy, but it's really good, and I don't sit around pounding a dozen like some might do with cheap, watery beer.

I wouldn't pay that, and it would suck for there to be no carbonation. I'd maybe pay a premium for a sip, maybe 1-2oz just out of curiousity. But nope, not paying $250+ for a bottle.

Group buy?

Shaun @ Tru6 09-17-2021 06:08 PM

I would pay that only if it kept like a bottle of bourbon. Then I can see it. But I don't think it does. And it's going to be harder to get than a bottle of Blanton's.

I understand that the high alcohol content beers can be aged. I suspect this one probably can be agreed too.

Bourbon doesnt age any once its been bottled/transferred from the barrel. There are lots of beers though that you can cellar.

GH85Carrera 09-18-2021 05:16 AM

I really like beer, but that is silly. I know lots of wine sells for lots more than that for a bottle, so it is not crazy pricing.

I love beer, but I would not consider paying that for a nanosecond. I would not mind a taste of it to see why they think it is worth that price.

I have spent 14 bucks on a bottle of Chimay in the fancy glass at a fancy Italian restaurant. That is about my limit for pricey beer.

TimT 09-18-2021 05:25 AM

I've had that beer.

Like the article says its like a fine Port..

In reality that bottle should last quite a long time.. Like Ports, you wont be doing shots like in a frat house..

How long Tim? That's my concern. A year?

ZOO 09-18-2021 05:29 AM

I've had some beers in this range. They are nothing like your average can of suds . . .

Has to be the process to make that drives the cost.

I suspect that depends upon you. At 28% (56 proof), it's not a hard liquor, but it's certainly not like regular beer or even wine. So, if you had a bottle of port (20%) or a liquore like Tuaca (35%) how long would one of those last?

I'm sure you could go through a bottle in a few sittings, or, you could have a small glass here and there and make it last a year.

TimT 09-18-2021 06:59 AM

I have no idea what the shelf life is...

I was given a bottle as a gift a few years ago by my brother.. We had a few shots that night.. then over the period of a few months I finished the bottle.. In all I guess the bottle lasted me 6 months.

Shaun @ Tru6 09-18-2021 07:41 AM

Good to know, thanks.

I had the sense you wanted to know how long the beer would last unopened if put in a cellar.

Shaun @ Tru6 09-18-2021 12:25 PM

Spread out through over the winter, this might be a very enjoyable treat now and again. I shockingly went through an entire bottle of Woodford's last winter.

I had a couple of cases of beer at the holiday home that had been sitting around for about five years. I put them out on the grass verge and watched. Some girls and guys about 13 came along and were surprised to find the beer which they joyfully carried away. I'm guessing if the beer was OK they had a rip roaring party on the beach that night.
