4.3 quake here yesterday evening 8 pm

Epicenter about 5 miles from me. Didn't even make the L.A. Times.

Shook us pretty good. I'd say over 5 seconds it was at first a slow rattle followed by one big jerk and fortunately just some rolling around towards the end. 3.0 aftershock at 11 pm. I was asleep.

Media too concerned with stealing a recall election to worry about the ground moving around. Sounds to me like even God knows Cali screwed up.

When we lived in Japan, we felt tremors frequently, if not weekly, then probably monthly. Bigger earthquakes were much, much less frequent.

I have spent a bunch of time in Cali and always a little disappointed that I never felt even a tiny wiggle.

Glad that it wasn't bad and you didn't have any damage (presumably since you didn't mention anything).

Just making room for the “projects” Newsom just signed into law for the entire state. Multi family housing mandated on single family lots state wide to address homelessness.

Sound pretty good?

I'll trade the frequency & intensity of our quakes for the constant flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc., etc. in other parts of the country. Maybe when the big one comes along, it won't be so good but could be centuries away (or tomorrow). The intensity was supposedly around 4.3, which is a decent amount. Where we live, we've felt little jolts on a fairly regular basis over the past ten years but non lately - actually for quite a while.

Mrs. Noah was out at dinner with some friends. She thought it was maybe a truck driving by, but then noticed no truck driving by.

I was sitting in the bleachers at a HS football game, so impossible to discriminate anything, with dozens of kids running up and down the aisles.

Precursor to the big one.......

Oh yeah, I felt one pretty good jolt last night but that was it.

Was relaxing in my easy chair with my feet up when it hit. Had a nice little ride there for a moment. The rolling action makes me nauseated though so I was up out of the chair before it stopped shaking.
Got on the computer to the USGS site and they initially put it at 4.4 I think.
As long as we keep having little ones, it'll help put the BIG ONE further out as they all tend to relieve pressure along the faults.

Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you, just thought you were upset that the LA Times didn't even cover the news of an earthquake because they had other things to think about. I guess in their minds earthquakes are just an everyday occurrence type of thing. Sorry, my bad.
An earthquake should be of great concern to anyone.

The story came out today. WTF? I mean I know about newspaper deadlines, but 8 pm on a Friday night should get in the Saturday edition even if only a small blurb.

Not that it means jack siht as a small EQ around here is not really news. The local TV station got on it and stayed on it for those that were curious.

Now here's what was weird: occasionally, and at great expense due to heavy fine$, the refineries in the immediate area were in the process of a 'burn off' at the time of the quake. SammyG2 can can you all about those. But it looked to many like a refinery fire which we definitely don't need.

The FD did roll on that but were told that it was a planned operation and under complete control.

Scott Douglas 09-19-2021 09:37 AM

That was my biggest concern when I found out it was centered in Carson, Zeke. Lots of refineries up in that part of the city.
