Football Weekend at Minnesota

My college friends and I are touring the Big 10. This is our 5th annual trip. Headed to Minneapolis this weekend for the meeting of College football’s most frightening mascots, Gophers vs Terrapins.

Friday night dinner is already booked at JD Hoyts which came highly recommended.

Game is at 3:30 on Saturday. Any recommendations on where to go for beers before the game? We’re not beer snobs so it doesn’t have to be a craft beer kind of place. Where the upperclassmen hang out or the alumni come back to is usually a good spot for us.

How about dinner and drinks after the game?

TIA

Wish I could help.

I would love to go to a game there.

However, if you see the "Coaches" wife, give her my best.

I’d never spent any time in the Midwest until UMD and RU joined the Big 10. That year my buddies came up for UMD v RU. Over dinner we came up with the idea to hit a Maryland game in a new Big 10 town every year. We’ve done Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue and Iowa.

It’s a great time to catch up with friends but the reception from each of the group of fans has been great. Purdue was a little cold but I think they’ve got a chip on their shoulder with other Big10 schools. Like they deserve more respect than they get. Certainly MD doesn’t pose a threat but maybe it was just an off week.

vvv I think that is great.

Since only one of us went to college near each other, or, with one exception (UGA) that can actually play football, we do an every two year meet for golf or for the Steeplechase meet in Aiken, Sc.

It is like we saw each other a week ago.

Next year one of my HS/college buddies and I are going to lap the States by car...we both want to hit places in the Midwest we haven't been. I want to see the UP of Michigan, for instance.

Enjoy!

Stub and Herbs for beers on Washington and Oak, there is no other choice. My dad took dates there for beers when he was at the "U" in 1950 and I tipped a few there in the early '80s during my stint. Trust me, there is nothing pretentious about it...you might even get to pimp slap someone...it's been known to happen.

There is nothing better than a Gopher's football game in October, I'm really jealous. Fall colors, beautiful fall weather, 50k students...enjoy!

The responses I got from my FB post on the Gophers page netted me a confirmation on our dinner choice for Friday, 2 spots for after dinner drinks that night, a full itinerary for Saturday including invitations to 2 tailgates on Saturday, one for brats, the other for fish fry!

Stubs and Herbs is on the list for Saturday.

You will need to hit up the horseshoe in Columbus, and make sure to watch TBDBITL (The best damn band in the land) when they do script "Ohio"...Fn awesome !

I think some of the best times are the tailgate events before the game, check out the "Skull Session" in the basketball arena also.

Our intent is do all of the schools. With the current configuration of the Big 10, we have 8 more trips after this year. Hopefully there’s another realignment in the future that can add a couple more destinations to the tradition.

I’ve seen YouTube videos of Ohios band. Just saw their Rush tribute this past weekend. I’ll definitely stay for half time when we visit the shoe.

Fun fact.

One of the guys I flew with in the Navy was Brutus Buckeye when he went to Ohio State. Great guy but we roasted him about this right up until we all found out that being BB could get you la....
