Car shows near LA Oct 16-17 ?
I'm from Vancouver BC but it looks like I might be in the LA area on the weekend of Oct 16-17. Nothing to do and two days to do it in.
Thinking Peterson museum...but ideally there would be a local mid-sized cars and coffee event happening . Where does a gearhead go to hang out on the weekend in LA ? |

Pick one. I have not been to any of them, but like to go to the Mercedes one in La Canada. Other then that, I am not into American iron or old cars from the 40s. Now, trucks, that's another story. There's a local Porsche group that meet up once a month and they sometimes take a driver up into Angeles Crest Hwy for some fresh air. Great bunch. Lots of old and some new 911s. I go once or twice a year. Will post date and location for you once I get more into from them. Worth going to Peterson's place |
Excellent - thanks. Funny enough the reason I am going to LA is because my kid is visiting friends in La Canada. Weird coincidence.

the local group meets at La Canada. There's a hot rod group that meets (all types of cars really) that meet there every Saturday morning. La Canada isn't that big, so its within 15 min drive from anywhere if you are staying there. I know that area very well.

Here you go.
I would meet you there but Saturday morning is my bike riding time. Sat 16 Early Rodders Car Meet October 16 @ 6:00 am - 9:00 am Early Rodders Car Meet | Saturdays | La Canada Flintridge Regal UA Cinema Parking Lot 1919 Verdugo Blvd, La Canada Flintridge, CA The Early Rodders Car Meet is a type of cars and coffee event. And a good one too. When I stopped around 8 AM it was in full swing. And when I left close to 9 AM it showed little signs of easy up. It offers a mix of all types of cars. Lots of […] |
Lots to choose from !
Looking for the show with the most European content... I have some homework to do - thank you for the links and information. Extremely helpful and pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. Cheers. |
The one in San Clemente is full of burn out and open pipe exhaust idiots leaving the venue. Went twice, that was enough. did see a nice early Alfa there and some neat vintage bikes as well.

Not cars and coffee, but consider a stop at PECLA and the bonus nearby Goodyear blimp base in Carson. The Nethercutt Museum is another option worth a look. The Wunderground at Porsche Santa Clarita is amazing. All are free.
You could also drive up Angeles Crest Highway and plant at Newcombs Ranch on Sat or Sunday morning and just take in the cars that drive past or stop in. Never know who/what you'll see. |
Every Saturday morning:
Enderle Center, 6-9 am, in Tustin (about an hour south of LA), 17350 17th St, Tustin 92780 Corona, 7-9 am, 2450 Wardlow Rd, Corona 92882 (maybe an hour-and-a-half southeast of LA) Glendale, 6:30 -9, 1919 Verdugo Blvd, Glendale (just north of downtown LA) every Sunday morning: Malibu Country Mart, can't recall the time, but it's another cars and coffee, on PCH, immediately south of Pepperdine campus. Lots of boutiquey shops, a couple restaurants (and a Starbucks), and plenty of beautiful people. |
I would make a trip up to the Rock Store. Leno shows up there with one of his motorcycles every week. Usually arrives about 11 o’clock, can’t remember if he comes on Saturday or Sunday.

You can hit the Rock Store and Malibu on the same day. PCH is obviously beautiful for cruising from about Pt Mugu to the Santa Monica Pier. The canyons of those Malibu mountains are fantastic for canyon carving--just beware the motorcycles and cyclists. Mul Hwy itself is a little bit too trafficked for high speed driving unless you do the Weatern bit from PCH to Little Sycamore, but the offshoot canyons: Decker, Encinal, Latigo, Stunt, Piuma, Yerba Buena, Little Sycamore are all fantastic.
The Petersen Museum has about half-a-dozen interesting Porsches on general display right now, plus there is a "Vault" tour (additional $) with a collection of 956/962s I believe. To a certain degree, pretty much all of LA is a car show all the time. |
Hey guys - thanks for all of the tips last year - I liked my trip so much I am coming back next weekend (August 6-7-8-9) but this time I am bringing my 996...yes all the way from North Vancouver just to drive the canyons and soak up some car culture.
Questions: 1) That Malibu Country Mart event - is it on Sunday morning on the regular ? 2) Petersons is hosting a C&C at Santa Paula but it's $20 tickets only and they will send the address when you pay the fee. Is it worth it ? 3) The Rock Store - is that the place to be on Sunday about noon ? I know that there are congregation points all through those canyons but I sure don't know my way around them. As an aside - I am actually dropping the daughter off in San Francisco on Friday and picking her up in Fresno on Tuesday - so if there is action around there then I am also interested. I may do up a post just for that. Thanks |
Yeah, the Rock Store is a good place to go on Sunday but I’d get there well before noon.
|
I'd think you'd want to rent a motorcycle if going to the Rock Store, but maybe times have changed since I was last there back in the '80's.
Isn't the Monterey car week that weekend or close to it? To the OP, I'd start a new thread since you're talking Aug now and not Oct. |
Malibu Country Mart is 10-noon. There are several restaurants already serving breakfast even before then. The car show centers around the Starbucks, where you'll find guys like Matt Farah, Cort Wagner, (sometimes Jay Leno) holding court. If you can't find parking in the immediate car show area,.park anywhere in the shopping complex and walk over.
|
Thanks guys - yes I should start a new thread. I'm in downtown San Francisco on Friday at noon and I'm still debating whether hauling ass down the CPH for a day of cars, canyons, and coffee is a good idea or not.
Monterrey car week is the weekend *after* i am there g*damnit. Next year IU wll plan better. Cheers |
I think there are usually some events at Laguna Seca the weekend before “car week.” You might check it out, there’s so many events it’s actually longer than a single week.

Gotta research some good driving roads/ car museum/car shows in the Bay Area and check out Cupertino which is apparently worth a look. |
