Squid Game

Netflix.

Genius on many levels.

If you make it all the way through E1, E2 is inevitable.

Very good but tends to get repetitive after a while.
If you want to watch something disturbing, watch The Platform.
Or, the best war movie ever made, Come and See.

Platform was very interesting.

I’ll look for Come and See.

Squid is repetitive in some ways. And actually sorta predictable. Which are the reasons for my being piqued. But, watching the strategies being developed and the decisions being made in light of each of the individuals’ stories was not expected.

Being half-way through, I’m curious to see how the second half plays out.

On Prime we just finished "Man in the High Castle" excellent production, 4 seasons 40 episodes with lots of twist of plot.

It gets a little repetitive right up until the Dice game then the entire feel of the series turns very very dark.

It was a very well done story line with some crazy twists.

I’ve always thought Netflix was a global propaganda and mind control tool. First there were those zombie movies, and now there are zombies in the streets (check out SF, Seattle or Philly for instance). Now, there is this squid series which is about survival and law of the jungle. Is it an harbinger of things to come, as the global economy deteriorates further?

Crowbob 10-05-2021 02:33 PM

It seems pretty clear to me that sci-fi shapes our future so it’s not that outrageous, IMO, to think the dystopian genre can do the same.

Though some think the Black Mirror series was a dystopian vision when actually it is a contemporary reflexion f where we actually are.

If you watch Come and See, do not watch the dubbed one. It is just stupid and not connected to the original Russian. The same criticism has been made of Squid Games.
The subtitles are pretty good.
If you speak Russian, even better, according to my wife.
Alas, I don't.

Enjoying the series so far. I said it in another forum, maybe captain obvious: but contestant 67 really cleans up well

I thought it was pretty good, but in retrospect a little derivative. I thought Alice in Borderland was better.

herr_oberst 10-07-2021 12:27 PM

It was good, it was derivative. But I watched all of them in 4 days.

The marble game was by far the hardest to watch. Lots going on there and lots of what ifs.

(Anyone else see part of the plot from a famous movie about grifters? I caught that right off and I assume a lot of you did too!)

I watched half of it the past few days.
Obvious basic anti-capitalism propaganda that for reasons I don’t know, the South Korean filmmakers love (Parasite, Snowpiercer etc).
I’m surprised Crowbob (and others) consider it “genius.”
