Winds of Winter
I started watching bits of Game of Thrones on youtube a couple years ago. I thought it was a midieval story until the dragons showed up. Eventually I got to watch the entire series on HBO and really got into it. This led me to reading the books. I'm in my 2nd reading right now and I'm understanding the story a lot more.
Dance of Dragons was published in 2011. The first three books, Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords, George Martin was able to write in about 2 years and then Feast of Crows took 5 years and Dance of Dragons took 6. When the TV show came, Martin became a celebrity and he is struggling to finish his story. Its been a decade since his last book in the series and he might be half way done with book 6, Winds of Winter. The first five books run about 900 pages and Martin says his final two will be 3000 pages. Has anyone speculated why he is having so much trouble finishing? He says he writes like a gardener; he starts something and keeps going with not really knowing how its going to end. He seems to have gone down a rabbit hole and gotten lost. I graduated from college when he published his first book and now I'm retired. Is he just procrastinating or maybe since he made it big, he can't say no to other work so he puts WoW on the back burner? When I finished the first 5 books last year, I thought I would never read them again but I started Game of Thrones a few months ago. I'm watching youtubers talk about the series. For those people its like bible study. I almost can't watch the show anymore. Its good television but its missing so much story from the books. ![]() Last edited by otto_kretschmer; 10-10-2021 at 08:53 PM.. |
