Car ID Question for all the Porschephiles

Can someone tell me the model (subtype?) and approx year of this 911 - it
Caught my eye a while back and I’d like to find one. I figure the center-lock wheels will be a good clue:

Obviously a cabriolet but there’s something else special about that car!

Center locks would put it at a 997.2 turbo. They are indeed special cars. Prices have been going nuts too.

Good catch, and the interior looks .2 to me as well.

The manual transmission is also pretty rate, I "borrowed this from RL"

I tried looking up the breakdown of the 25,000 997 Turbos produced from least to most numerous:

722 997.2 Turbo manuals (19% of production)
2000 997.2 Turbo S
3078 997.2 Turbo PDK
8500 997.1 Turbo manual (45% of production)
10,560 997.1 Turbo Tiptronic

Two assumptions have been made here: Total911 stated production of manuals for the 997.2 was around 20% before production ended, but since PDK was increasing in popularity, I'm going to go with 19% instead. Also, sources for manual production numbers differ. I've used a 45:55 ratio with the tiptronic here, however please contribute if there's reason to believe it's lower and I'll modify it.

No need. You drive a 997.2 turbo.

Looks like it has PCCB also....nice option on the turbo. Standard on a Turbo S....
I just bought a 997.2 Turbo S in August. Scary fast!!
Mine is a 2013 cab with PDK turbo S....something like only 80 produced in 2013.

Very nice mgatepi!

My .2 is a GT3 not a turbo, decided to try a non turbo for a while. Seeing the 6MT turbos is rare.

My .2 is just an S - but since it's red - it goes as fast as a Turbo.

I feel like this statement deserves it's own thread.

We'd like a thorough review of both cars with compare/contrast between the differences and then your personal feelings on the strengths and weaknesses of both cars.

It should be type written, single space is fine. 5 pages minimum and due by the beginning of class on Friday.

I think the soft top on that car could be cool depending on where you are located and what the intended purpose of the car is....more below.

My most recent 911 turbo was a pristine bone stock '03 996TT. Having had a heavily modified 964T I was looking for something I had to tinker with less. The 996TT was exactly that, other than a weeping front radiator I did not have to do much to it at all.

As a GT car was where that car shined, it would eat up highway miles with ease. There was not a lot of boost lag so when you needed to pass someone it was really easy. i would jump in it to run to the airport and really enjoy the 1 and half drive.

It was boring though..... I did canyon drives in it and it built speed quickly and was sure footed with the awd, but there was just something missing. With the 964T I knew if I did not pay attention that car would bite back.

So I started doing a lot of research in around mid 2018 at what I could replace it with. The 996TT had maybe 45K miles on it or so, sport seats and was a really nice car, so it wasn't like it had to go. I looked at 997 and 991 turbos but was pretty convinced I would run into the same issue. As a GT a great all around car and one that would be an ideal daily driver in the warmer months and go on trips in, but I have my motorcycle for that.

I am also a fan of manual transmissions in my fun "toy" cars, so that pretty much knocked out the newer 991 turbos.

The 997 seemed like the sweet spot, still somewhat analog and Porsche nailed the looks in my biased opinion. Still not the classic air cooled look, but just right.

I ended up with a 997.2 GT3RS 3.8, fortunately before they went up in value a ton. The interior is a step up from the 996.2 I had, with good materials for the most part. The carbon fiber trim is an issue but fortunately I do not have much of that. The naturally aspirated motor revs fast as hell and sings such sweet music that while I do use the radio, it isn't a huge priority for me.

It feels planted as well, but like the older cars there is an edge to it, it sucks on the highway (gearing and suspension) compared to the turbo I had, but damn on all of the other roads, yes please. Mine has 19K miles on it, so its higher mileage which is stupid, but whatever I am putting miles on it.

I'd love a 997.2 GT2RS because that would be a combination of the best of both worlds, except I would have to sell my house and live in the car sot that isn't happening.
