Anyone in SC whose dad has an awesome set of tools?
I'm picking up a car in North Carolina next week if plans don't change, near Raleigh. It has a bad A/C compressor, so I bought a new one and had it shipped to the seller so that he could throw it in the trunk. The car is a 1982 Mercedes-Benz diesel wagon, pretty simple to work on.
I just checked the forecast and it looks like I won't really need A/C on the way back to CA. but it would be nice to have it, I guess. I was going to pick up the car earlier, (winter), and did not think twice about the lack of A/C. I can install it in a couple of hours or less but it's not possible to bring a full set of tools on the plane. Might hire it out to a shop but hate to pay hundreds of dollars for something I can do myself, blindfolded. ![]() I thought that I'd ask here in case there are any gear heads in the area with a home shop I could use, I would of course show my appreciation with a nice steak dinner at the restaurant of their choice. Really basic sockets and open/box end metric wrenches needed plus a floor jack and one jack stand. LF wheel comes off and it's an easy job. I would then take it somewhere for compressor oil and freon fill. Maybe a long shot but just realized that I could ask here. Can't remember for the life of me who is in that neck of the woods. TIA. ![]()

Sorry...title meant to say North Carolina, although SC might work as well since I'll be exploring the area a little as time allows. Never been to those states and always wanted to go. Thanks!

I wish I were in SC, so that I could meet Denis in person.
Baz, do a search for Georgia Boot Giant. GB is the brand, Giant is the pattern. Yes, it is in the style of a "Romeo" slipper, with the elastic sides. Very comfortable. You never have to touch them. They slip on and off. Reasonable price. I wear my old pair probably five hours for every hour I wear any of my other shoes. I really should get another pair. They are many years old. Did I mention they also last a long time?

![]() I’m flying to Raleigh, NC next Tuesday, (the 5th), I think will be bouncing around the Carolinas for a day or two. I’ll update this thread, thanks a lot.

Can't help with the tools, but this sounds like a great trip. I'll second the vote for visiting Asheville, and Western NC in general. If you have the time, Charleston SC is worth a look too.
Be sure to try some shrimp & grits while you're back there. Tupelo Honey in Asheville serves up a really tasty version of this classic Southern dish.

I thought I was hard on shoes, but mine last me at least four times longer than yours. Or more. It's a pretty darned good shoe.

My dad always bought crap tools. And we went on long trips in the car and broke down a lot. I mean a LOT. That's why I buy so many good tools and stay on top of maintenance.
