NHL '21-22 season is up and running (without a poll)

At the request of another hockey fan...let the TRASH TALK begin.

I have a buddy who is a huge Caps/Ovi fan. He went on about how well the Caps did. I pointed out that they didn't exactly play a powerhouse team. Lets see how they do when they have some more serious competition. He wants to see Ovi break Gretzky's record for goals. I am sentimental about 'the great one' so its hard for me to agree. I wonder if Ovi has enough time to get it done before age takes its toll.

The Kraken seem to have some legitimate credibility. They gave Vegas a run for their money and are leading the Preds as we speak.

Finally, I am happy to report that Marchand has not gotten into any trouble this season. We're off to a good start.

OK, who's next?

You got your first hockey related suspension. Not someone I would have guessed.

flatbutt 10-15-2021 04:23 AM

Chicago tonight so talk to me tomorrow.

Does Chicago have its act together enough to be a serious team this year?

The suspension: I think we are going to see a lot more boarding and cross checking calls suspensions this year because the league said they were going to focus on cross checking.

The Kraken are off to a good start. The question is whether they can keep going once the rest of the league knows their playbook and patterns. Of course, I said that about Vegas in their first year and they didn't do too shabby...

Mr. Bean, now known as Captain Kraken!
Flames will miss him...

..

NJD has a slight size advantage over Chi but we are a young team so who knows.

Well that was a cardiac session. Losing the lead and allowing the tie with seconds left then win it in OT with some great stick handling is a ride.

Well Flat, your team is currently tied for the Presidents Trophy!
(enjoy it while you can)

(In my best Homer Simpson voice) You say that like its a bad thing.

Marchand started the season opener with two goals. The first one a penalty shot. :)

I think I just watched the most exciting 3 on 3 OT I have every witnessed between the Rangers and the Leafs. Action everywhere. Passes and saves and the best was the Ranger goalie made a save 25 feet out of the net! Gosh I miss Tim Thomas.

There were indeed some great plays made by the goalies. Shesterkin is so good in the butterfly it's like his knees are ball and socket.

A little NHL history:
10/19/1966 Bobby Orr plays his first NHL game
10/19/1976 Bobby Orr scores his final assist (total of 645 points)

Considered the greatest defenseman to ever play the game. He changed the way the game was played.

Greatest of his era, yes. Doug Harvey paved the road for him.

Por_sha911 10-20-2021 03:28 PM

Greatest ever.
Prove me wrong.

flatbutt 10-20-2021 06:09 PM

Yo Joe ...Slayman did not look good tonight. We may be without the new kid Hughes for awhile.

Swayman couldn't stop a beach ball last night. I was so disgusted I shut it off when it went 4-3 less than 1 minute into the 3rd.
Ullmark starts Friday and if he plays well, he will be #1 until if and when Rask comes back.
