The Sidecar
It's time to put the gin and IPAs away and welcome back bourbon and stouts. And cognac. A classic cognac cocktail, the Sidecar became popular in the 1920s combining cognac, Cointreau and lemon juice with a sugared rim. I made one the other day and it was good but could be better, my thought was by adding honey syrup, heated honey and water and then let cool.
As an evening cocktail, one of the best I've had. Basic recipe: 2 ounces of a good cognac (I used Courvoisier VSOP Exclusif) 1 ounce of Cointreau 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice (I left in the pulp) 1/2 ounce of honey syrup No sugared rim Frozen glass and alchohols Perfect drinkable (maybe a little too much) cocktail after a long day. What are you drinking this fall? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634597346.jpg |
Shaun I hate to say this but you are screwing up.
forget the courvoisier and use woodford bourbon and a bit more lemon, garnish with orange zest much, much better Been drinking them for years one of my faves |
Dan I just ran out of Woodford double oaked but will certainly give that a try when I pick up some more.

But... That cocktail does look pretty fine to a guy who's been using a chainsaw all day and could do with a drink http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif |
I was introduced to the Dark and Stormy, dark spiced rum and ginger beer over crushed ice. This case was Kraken rum.
I don't particularly care for rum, but this was SO DAMNED GOOD. Like, sitting on the beach drinking these would end up with me drowning in the water because I rolled down the sand after a few good. |
Love me a sidecar.
My fall drink has been good bourbon, real maple syrup, and a squeeze of lemon. |

I prefer the Sidecar's cousin, "Between the Sheets". The sweetness of the rum balances the Oakiness of the Cognac.
1 oz Cognac 1 oz Cointreau 1 oz light rum .25 oz lemon juice Garnish with a ribbon of orange peel. |
Stella.
A man of simple tastes. |
I thought this thread was about peeing in the sink at a bar when the toilets/urinals were occupied.

Mount Difficulty is another although I've had a few dud bottles from them https://www.mtdifficulty.nz/collections If you see this one around buy it. It's always excellent https://moorewilsons.co.nz/valli-pinot-noir-bendigo And cheaper ones are great too such as Fickle Mistress Pinot Noir Central Otago https://shop.countdown.co.nz/shop/productdetails?stockcode=754785&name=fickle-mistress-pinot-noir-central-otago Loosely speaking, any NZ pinot noir from Otago is a good bet. Our NZ dollar is about 30% weaker than a US$ to give you an idea of what they cost. |
