Nascar is going to debut a brand new race car - with a race in the LA Coliseum.

Well, they have dirt races at Bristol now. Why the heck not...?
Throw enough spaghetti at the wall, some of it will be al dente

a 1/4 mile oval? Crazy. Better a go kart race on an oval that small.

1/4 mile track is terribly short for Cup cars. I predict many cautions. Every thing Ive heard about the new cars has been positive. 18" wheels, big brakes and a 6 speed transaxle.

Independent suspension, too.

The Clash splits the field across more than one race.
I wonder how many cars will be in each field.

Bowman Gray when I last watched a K&N series race had 22 in the field.

They're doing away with the multiple lug nut wheel mount, too... going to a single center attachment nut like GT and F1.

This will be a huge safety improvement because as it is now, many times after a wheel/tire change, the cars go back out with only 4 lug nuts secured on some wheels because the tire changer is in such a hurry.

Also going to carbon fiber bodies. They can bump the wall and the fenders bounce back out instead of bending in and cutting tires. And all the chassis will come out of the same shop, built to spec. This will save the teams a lot of $$$$$$$.

FI started in 2012.

I like the short tracks. Particularly Bristol.

I have been to Bristol numerous times. Even saw the World of Outlaws run on dirt there in 2001. WoO 13 second laps on dirt. NASCAR runs 15 second laps on paved surface and 20 seconds on dirt.

I don't give a damn about the name. They were never completely stock, they were always highly modified compared to true "off the lot" cars of the time.

If they had kept stock engines they could not ever get past 120 MPH.
Now they spend millions to look like stock..not much savings in that I would guess?
Not so. New Mustangs and Camaros are available with over 600 H.P. Toyota Supras, not so much.

This would be the best change EVER!
You might like the current Trans Am series, tube frames, V8s, no abs or traction control. Its beastly.

Nascar losing fan base quicker than the crypto making people millionaires.....

No matter the amount of new promotion they list. It won't bring back those fans. Hence let's go Brandon.

The noose incident was the final straw for me.

Given that they are all buying a stock chassis from the same place, yes, it is pretty close to stock car racing.

The noose incident was the final straw for me.
They started to lose me after they made their social media research center.
I didn't realize it at the time, but looking back, that is when.
Something like 90% of twitter content is made by 10% of the users.
And not everyone has a twitter account.
They were chasing the words of a small demographic within a small demographic and taking it as dogma.

I was disappointed Bubba went with that story that NASCAR drummed up.
He is however the kind of guy that jumps first and measures how high the fall was later.

There is a ruleset designed to limit freedom and prevent cars of disimilar stock.
They are racing stock cars, just nost street legal stock cars.

There is probably not one part left in a Nasty Car track that is sold over the counter.
There should be no such rule, as they were "stock cars, in the beginning, they ruined it with their rulings.
That was the point- pick the car one you wanted to race.
A Stockcar with roll cage etc
Make the sanctioned allotment.
But that is my soapbox.
How can they be called "Stock Car" when no part was ever sold on the showroom floor?
That is what is missing
/QUOTE]

Perhaps Silhouette should replace the name stock?

Afterburn these race cars have been developed over decades.
They are made so that the driver can survive a 200mph crash.

FYI the stock aspect has not been relevant for decades.
C/P The first half tube frames started in 1966, the first full tube chassis happened in 1971.
If you don't want any tube added to the car, that would be in the early 1950s.
Strictly Stock ended in the mid 50s, roughly 5 or so years after the birth of NASCAR.

Nascar guys will tell you their favorite time might be before plastic bodies when they still had hand formed metal body panels.
That way at a pit stop you could accidently push or hammer on the body to improve the aero.

SCCA has classes for showroom stock cars if you like to see production cars race.
