Aussie streaming series/movies in the US
Anyone else into them? I like the different perspective and landscapes. Any of you have favorites?
Here are some from Netflix I like: Pine Gap Secret City Glitch Rake |
Wentworth
My Life is Murder (season 1 was in Melbourne, season 2 in New Zealand) |
Quigley Down Under
|
A pretty good movie I stumbled upon a few years ago filmed in Tasmania with Willem Defoe - 'The Hunter'. Great scenery and story.
Another good one (though not quite as good as The Hunter) was 'Road Games'. Sort of Hitchcock style road movie/thriller filmed across the Nullarbor Plain in southern Australia. |
|
Brokenwood. NZ
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. AUS Death in Paradise, in the Caribbean Mr & Mrs Murder AUS |
I'm a bit surprised you guys could be bothered with our stuff. (They dubbed the original Mad Max movie for its US release)
- I could provide a long list of good Aussie movies if you're interested. But here's two to start with... "Animal Kingdom" TV series and Movie. (The Movie is better) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Kingdom_(TV_series) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Kingdom_(film) |
Pine Gap was decent.
me? i like the Spanish productions most of all. i find the running commentary (that is quite often present) an interesting addition to the process, the commentary usually from 1 perspective. |
Peter, I sure enjoyed your "Underbelly" mini series. They were GOOD.
Packed to the rafters too. I've always been a huge fan of Uncle Harry (Michael Caton) after watching "The Sullivans" as a teen/tweenties. |
Mr. Inbetween was good. Only 3 seaasons, I think.
|
The Big Steal.
|
You have to see Puberty Blues. The remake of it.
It was excellent. Located in Cronulla which is a beach town in the greater Sydney area. I loved that. |
Rake is super funny. It’s at least ten years old, but still works.
|
Not a series, per se, but I routinely watch 4WD 24-7 on youtube. A bunch of guys going on four wheeling adventures all around Australia. The video production is really good and the shows are very entertaining. They did Fraser Island on the last one I watched. Beautiful place. I must admit that I have a hard time understanding their accent, though. :)

A different venue but my wife and I are enjoying " vets on the beach " . A series of different Aussie vets and how they go about their jobs caring for various animals . We think it is well done and educational , it also doesn't hurt that the female vets are quite attractive 😁

"Gallipoli" absolute classic
"Breaker Morant" "Roadgames" All the "Mad Max" franchise--the first being the favorite "Chopper" with Eric Bana "Love the Beast" --again Bana |
We've watched a few, Miss Fisher's Mysteries, Modern Miss Fisher, Mr and Mrs Murder and a couple/few others. The Babadook. It was surprising that the actress was the same woman (Essie Davis) as in Miss Fisher's Mysteries. It reminds me a bit of the transformation of Charlize Theron from usual to her character in "Monster," although not to the same extent.
We've also really enjoyed some of the Nordic (Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic) shows on Netflix. If you're into cop/detective/mystery shows, the Nordic stuff is surprisingly good. It seems much grittier than the American and British stuff that we watch most often. I've also watched a couple of Japanese shows on Netflix. |
Harlow (hulu) wasn't bad at all...
|
Alan Rickman was the star of this movie...to me.

+1 on Mr Inbetween, it’s very good.
