first frost of the season

26 F this am. And the first snow-fall...didn't stick...ground too warm. But the roads were icy.
Plenty of accidents...everyone believes they should always be driving over the speed limit.

Just saw this
https://www.foxweather.com/weather-news/northern-michigan-city-records-nearly-1-foot-of-snow-in-a-single-day

We had frost a few days ago. I gotta break out my cold weather gear for hunting now!

I'm bringing my Canna lily pots in today as we're predicted for the mid 20's tonight.

With the 26 temp this am...the leafs are starting to really fall in my yard.
I've got the Trac-Vac out and ready.

We had 7 inches of snow out in western Nebraska yesterday. Hopefully that is not a sign of what winter is going to be like this year.

Leave are dropping here at a rapid pace too. I'm going out shortly to mow the lawn with a hoodie, jacket, and gloves on.

It actually feels nice outside here now. The temp is up to the mid 40's and there is no wind and sunny.

My friend and I went deer hunting yesterday afternoon. It was upper 40's but there was a Northwest wind. My friend and I were debating what to wear, cold weather or layers with mid weight. I was already all in on the layering since I had left the house without my cold weather jacket and bibs. When we got to the woods he said "I don't know which to wear". My reply "would you rather regret being too warm, or too cold?" He went with the cold weather gear.

Bow hunting? Rifle season hasn't started here yet..Nov 15
Yeah..when you're sitting for hours outside...it's best to have enough layers.

cabmandone 11-03-2021 08:06 AM

Yeah archery is in here. Came in the last week in September.

And WOW! Your leaves are really coming down. Things must have really turned in the last few weeks. When I went up to Huron the first part of October, the leaves weren't changing much. When I went up to GRap to drop the heads off to craig, things were really just starting to turn.

stevej37 11-03-2021 08:06 AM

^^^ No snow in TC yet?

cabmandone 11-03-2021 08:08 AM

I'm hoping things warm up just a wee bit before I go up to do some steelhead fishing when the heads are done! I'm a fair weather fisherman.

stevej37 11-03-2021 08:09 AM

We had such a late start to fall, that I knew it would happen fast once it started.
And it did. The trees went from starting to color to falling in the matter of a week.

1.5” last night, Stevie. Melting off pretty fast.

Pic is from last year (10/31/20). Leaves are still only about 1/3 down so far this year.

stevej37 11-03-2021 08:17 AM

Here is a pic of my neighbors lawn from mine.

Saturday..there wasn't a leaf fallen yet. Now it's covered.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1635956214.jpg

You should be a good neighbor and sweep their lawn. :)

I didn't see them coming over to help pick-up my 14 wheelbarrows of black walnuts.

Sort of strange around here. My Mesquite trees are still in full folage, new grass is growing everywhere, & I have a few stunted California Poppies flowering. It's been down into the 30's several times & hit freezing briefly a couple of times, but the plants are still going full bore so far.

cabmandone 11-03-2021 09:59 AM

That was some kind of cold lawn mowin I just did! I need a heated cab. I've dun gone soft. :(
