I'll do it.

Tempting offer but I don't spend nearly as much time here as I used to and at the moment I don't have the time to commit to it and I'm not gluten for punishment.

Pretty much what I figured.

Note: Never take one.. that's just nasty.

And a word of medical advice: As long as that took, go get your prostate checked :D

Do it! If the admis will accept you as a moderator I'll step down. I'm totally serious about that. This isn't something that I really wanted to do. I just saw a need and asked if I could become a mod.

Once you're approved, I'm out. Totally serious here.

In fact, I'm so serious I'm going to post your willingness to volunteer in the mods section to let the admins know you're willing to step up. Is that okay with you?

I'll shoot Zman a message as soon as you give me the greenlight and ask to mods to consider you as a new moderator. I have no problem with not taking on this task.

Great. I'm not looking to replace anyone. The joint needs a lot of help.

cabmandone 11-07-2021 05:03 PM

It's not as bad as all that. OT is a great place. Sure the political stuff filters in from time to time but once Paul and I have been trained, we're going to quickly move things that don't belong in OT. We both want to see this place cleaned up a bit.

Don't give up your day job for stand up.

So, what's the deal, are sigs fair game for content that may break the rules?

Yes or no?

There are plenty of reasons to say no and not a lot, if any, to say yes.

In fact, I seem to recall the call is no from when a long time frequent poster here used to style the color of his to almost match the forum background so he could include stuff that broke the rules and he was flat out told to knock that **** off,

So we do have established precedent.

cabmandone 11-07-2021 05:09 PM

Top of the page.. The rules are there. Show me where it violates the rules and I'll send a message to the person violating them.

Meanwhile: (1) No flaming: debates are ok, but responding to threads just to incite or start an argument or conflict is not permitted.

Now I'm done addressing this.

Pfft,

I moderate the communities FB Classifieds page.

I've got 3,000 affluent latte drinkin SUV driving soccer mom Karens who I get to deal with when Jane is first in line for an item but Barb PMs the seller on the side, breaking the rules, and Jane losses out on a pair of used kids soccer cleats for $2.00.

You outta try that.:D

This is not flaming, this is an ongoing debate because my question was not answered.

Well, it initially was which spawned a second question that asked for a bit more clarity and that answer seemed to indicate that no, the first answer was not a consistent guideline.

And here we are.

I've been here 20 years and the rules have always been an ever evolving set of guidelines.

It's been stated numerous times by prior mods that profanity is not welcome and attempts to bypass the filters would not be tolerated.

You yourself freely admit you know what Lets Go Brandon really says.

We can debate that but the other part is we all know PARF was created to somewhat insulate the commercial business that is Pelican from the sewer.

That PARF only shows up if you are logged in confirms it's not something to be especially proud of.

We say it here seemingly far too frequently lately, politics, move it to PARF.

We are all aware that is where the political stuff is meant to stay and there is no denying Lets Go Brandon is a political statement with a vulgar undertone which will show up everywhere that member posts.

I really don't see how that does not violate the rule of keeping politics, especially political commentary that is considered offensive to many and really not productive to any discussion, isolated to PARF.

It would have been fine and it would have been the end of it the answer was "not sure let me take it up with the other mods and get back".

But we can be done with it, I reported the post so let's see where it goes.

I really would like to know if sigs are fair game now because in the past they were not.

KFC911 11-07-2021 05:39 PM

^^^^ LOL .... Crabman has his own gaggle of "my bichez" to deal wif :D

..... they're not "my bichez" tho' ;)

PARF is a cesspool, always has been and the vast majority here just don't venture into the stench. Some like it ... and don't mind the spillover. Both of the new sheriffs are guilty too .... that's just a fact. Mebbe PPOT mods should be guys who've never waded in?

Now Paul is gonna chastise me for telling it like it is .... and I don't GAF really. It's just a fuchin' cancer that's mestasized.

DD was actually doing a decent job but pulled a real bonehead move by challenging Thor (RIP) with something that he technically could not enforce on an open forum. Then DD went AWOL about six months ago .... and the overflow commenced .... some love it .... many just say adios.

And nobody really matters...

Except me :)

....just ask my dawg ;)

KFC911 11-07-2021 06:00 PM

I just had to google "Let's Go Brandon" .... never heard or seen it before this thread fwiw. On mobile, I don't see sig lines or starz ....

How many does this thread have :D?

Rules say to keep politics in PARF and that sig breaks that rule.

We also have rules about profanity and bypassing the filters in place to sneak it in.

That sig breaks those rule everywhere on the Pelican Forums where that member posts outside of PPOT.

I'd like a proper explanation other than we ignore sigs because if that is the official position I'd like to know.

I question your ability to be impartial here when you posted this not two days ago.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/11509520-post3.html

To be clear, the responsibility of being a mod does not give you carte blanche to disregard the rules you are meant to enforce because you agree with the content in question.

Yes?

No?

I disagree regarding your assessment of why the term is used.

"Lets go Brandon" refers to a blatant lie a member of the media told to obscure the fact that people were chanting the phrase you refer to regarding Joe Biden. It was just an obvious and pitiful attempt to dishonestly protect a politician by telling the audience that fans were chanting something they were not (and you could hear them clearly in the background). It was much like when CNN told us protests were peaceful last year when you could see multiple buildings in flames behind them. It is not an attempt to bypass the filters, it is meant exactly as it is said "Lets go Brandon"...as an indication that the press lies and was caught doing so...in a most hilarious fashion. An attack on the media vice on the President. You could make the case it is political...if an attack on the MSM is political. Doing so is admitting the press is political and favors the administration enough to lie for them (exactly what "Lets go Brandon" represents). The media has always been fair game here...and left wing commentators and SNL have been posted here often (like in the Aaron Rodgers thread). Banning free speech is a slippery slope. Tit for tat takes an awful lot along with it.

upsscott 11-07-2021 07:01 PM

She didn't lie. She was interviewing a driver by the name of Brandon. The really intelligent Nascar fans were screaming eff Joe Biden. The lady reporter conductothe interview was wearing a headset mistakingly said they were saying Let's Go Brandon. Seems like an honest mistake to me.

Awesome

The politics were a source of great dissatisfaction for me here.

I welcome this!!!

upsscott 11-07-2021 07:13 PM

I think NBC or whoever was airing the interview has rules about saying the "F" bomb on live TV.

There was obviously no mistake. They chanted that for a very long time, just like many other events (and it was perfectly clear to anyone listening), hence the ridicule. The reporter did not fool them as she apparently fooled you. They may be brighter than you think. Listen to the video for yourself.

Yeah, there's no nastiness towards others here in the land O' lollypops and PPOT. Just love!

Do you even hear yourself?

So much emo nastiness that your point is paradoxical and hard to believe.
