How to cut 5/8" steel plate like butter

Get a proper metal cutting circular saw. This one is an ancient Hitech Evolution 180 I got for $45 with a few tons of steel I bought off CL. And get the right blade, Fein Slugger for mild steel. Going slowly, I cut 6 feet of 5/8" steel plate in under 5 minutes. And the blade will still cut more. Going to look for a low speed chop saw for these blades. They are far better than an abrasive fiber cutting wheel on I have on my 14" Milwaukee chop saw now.

Very nice 👍 . What is different about a metal cutting circular saw vs wood ? More amps and better bearings ? I have a 5/16 thick metal flatbed for my truck and I will need to cut a square hole to fit a gooseneck hitch . This might be an option .

Holy smokes, 5/8" thick steel with that blade? Amazing. How many rpm? How long does it take compare to a grinder with a traditional cutting wheel?

Mounting this on the front of the Cayenne for a little traffic control.

It's going under my scissor lift in the pit, a 3/8" plate will be on top to drive over. Then I'll be using it to construct the paint shop using industrial warehousing shelving as the structure though I'm pretty sure I'll get an Evolution chop saw for that work.

Jeff, it's rated for 3500 RPM, slow and steady. A grinder would have been over an hour I'm sure.

Amps, bearings but also RPM. It's slow compared to a wood saw I think. Definitely worth getting one if you are cutting any kind of steel more than once or twice.

A regular wood saw will easily cut aluminium or steel with carbide blade, ideally a 8 1/4 saw spinning a 7 1/2" blade to get the teeth surface speed down, most carbide wood blades will cut through aluminium no prob, and some steel. I have cut 2 1/2" aluminium with reg worm drive circular saw and reg carbide blade. Face shield and hearing protection req. That saw would help keep the hot swarf away.
