What Are You Listening to Today (motors)...

I almost added this to our "music" thread because, well, it is... to my ears, anyway. Then it occurred to me that not only would that be inappropriate, but even worse - we don't actually have a thread for this kind of "music" - our favorite engine sounds. On a car guy forum... C'mon, men, we can do better than that... I'll start.

Norton Dominator, ridden in fine style by a young man from Germany. Gotta love that Smiths tacho (he won't let us see the speedo...):

Damn you Jeff. I already have too many bikes....now this! BTW...I actually have that same Monza gas cap on my R9T...way cool and easier to fill without drips on the finery.

Perhaps due to age and moderate tinnitus, I ride in earplugs. Been listening to the muffled stock XR exhaust and quite pleased with the sound. Not a loud bike guy and I don’t think the higher revving Sportster mill would do the potato potato thing anyway.

Great vid! Thanks for sharing. I think.

So, you did finally wind up with an XR? How on earth did I miss that? I remember you backed out on the one due to the dealer's poor attitude, but you found another?

And, yeah - something about that Dominator. What a cool sound. I'm not sure why, it's "just" another Brit vertical twin, but I'm here to tell you - I've never heard one that sounds like that. And beyond that, this young German seems to really understand the "ness" of the whole Ton-Up thing. He's doing it right...

I have a deep desire for a Honda CBX1000, with a well tuned exhaust they sound like a 60's F1 car.

As of late I am watching videos on C6 Z06 Vettes, as I think the time is coming to let the 911 go and embrace the logical choice for fast, fun, affordable, reliable. :( bitter sweet.

I'll never forget the time my brother and I rode up to the Rock Store one Saturday. A guy with a stripped down GL1000 came in. It had 3 into 1 pipes on it. When he left he let everyone know what that engine could do. It was other worldly to say the least.

Continental R-975-C4 radial in a Sherman tank. 15.9 liters, nine cylinders. Kinda cold blooded:

why bother hiding the speedo, anybody who wants to can calculate speed with known and visible distance over time ...

If you are that worried getting busted over it : then don't post video's of you doing illegal speeds.

This is always good for a chuckle. Go to about 1:20. You literally can't help yourself from reacting at the bark. I've been there many many times and I still jump a little even though I know it's coming.

Yeah, I'm a HUGE Top Fuel and Funny Car fan. Never gets old. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer teams still bless us with the throttle blip. Big, smokey, half track burnouts are a thing of the past as well. It's all too calculated now.

Speaking of things of the past, a modern "power unit" will sure as hell never be able to do this:

Heh heh... I'm sure we've all done that when the object of our desires, and/or the deal presented outweighs the "ass hole factor" of the seller. We just swallow hard and do it. We're still enjoying whatever it is long after we've forgotten whoever it was. Cool bike - enjoy!
