The cynic in me thinks, "completely scripted, not reality based at all." (of course, it's a commercial)

But, I think it's a great commercial, and I hope the show the ever livin' crap out of it. If just 1% of folks see it and are impacted, it'll be a great thing.

We are not even allowed to discuss contentious issues here...so this can never work in OT. Too bad, because the love of cars used to help us get along with folks with contrary opinions here (with a few exceptions). It was not the beer, but the shared projects where they had to work together to create something.

The problem is that with few exceptions we all think we "know" each other here, the battle line have been draw, nobodies right if everybody is wrong.

I have asked numerous times for a polite discussion on specific issues this country faces. I do not or will not belong to a private company we call political parties because I won't cheer lead for or be defined by them.

PARF was created because civic discourse isn't. Individual posters cannot control

Try it here, Flint: Start a post that with a seemingly innocuous but slightly political bent.

The video is good, and unsurprising. I have said, many times here, that I have no trouble discussing public policy topics in person with people whose views are VERY different from mine. I disagree with Paul's statement that "The problem is that with few exceptions we all think we "know" each other here." I think the problem is nearly the opposite. We don't have to face one another. The same thing that makes people feel they can be a-holes here also makes people think they can be a-holes behind the wheel of a car. Distance. Hiding behind steel and glass, or behind internet firewalls.

This was the magic of the video, and it can play itself out anywhere, anytime. If I had to sum it up in a word, that word might be "accountability." Folks will cut you off in traffic, but they won't do this at the grocery store. Accountability. One person I know is pleasant and respectful in person, somewhat quiet, nearly docile. At his computer, Mr. Hyde. The difference is enough to be actually frightening.

Solution: A campfire and a cooler of beer.

I don't think we are in disagreement: The opening shots of the commercial are statements from people who think they "know" what the other side is.

Later, after their "campfire", things change...it often does.

That was my point.

I get accused of being a "con" all the time. Nothing could be farther from the truth. But you knew that.

I like the commercial, it mirrors what I know.
