Upon further review, it seems Venmo has similar policies and procedures. A fee on funds that come from a "card," even a debit card. A 2-3 day wait for setting up the "bank" option using routing number and account number....through a third party vendor. And an immediate "bank" option requiring disclosure of my banking password. Now, you guys know I'm not very smart but I am smart enough to see the danger in that.
I got money to her and if I have to do it again, I will walk into a local branch of her bank with cash. |
Not that this helps, but a couple things.
1.) They don't pull from cards no fee, because there is a fee to run as a card, thus need for banking info so they can send ACH. 2.) Venmo is owned by Paypal. 3.) Zelle is bank to bank and after setup should be fastest / cheapest. 4.) All else fails, almost any bank's online bill payer can just cut and mail a check, usually takes 3-5 days. |
Hm. Good information, Rob.
I the olden days, they used to disallow mergers which effectively create monopolies or at least limit competition. My card is "debit," though it can be used as a credit card. There is no fee to anyone using debit, right? Perhaps I can use it as debit, but PayPal would need to draw from it as credit, incurring the fee? The "password" they are looking for.....perhaps that is my debit PIN#? I thought they were asking for the password I use to access and manage my accounts online. |

It is a debit card to you and to MC/Visa (which comes with lower transaction costs) only when you use your PIN number. If all you’re giving them is a CC#, expiration and CVV with no PIN, MC/Visa bill them as if it’s a credit card with the corresponding higher transaction fees. |
Did you not see the all the posts saying to use Zelle? ;)

If your sister uses bank x and you have a local branch of brand x , can't you deposit the money into your sister's account ? Obviously she would have to give you her checking or savings account number but doesn't that put the money into her account with no fees ?
